Watery & World Bird Wednesday - Egrets and Pelicans

"Gone fishin' . . ." Egret and, are they Herons or juvenile Egrets?
Can some knowledgeable person please enlighten me???

The fishing was good so when they had had enough, they flew into
the Norfolk Island Pine to roost. It was still afternoon, maybe
just for an afternoon nap.

The fishing was so good that there were no squabbles between
species. Here the Pelican, Pelicanus conspicillatus, has no
problem in sharing his space with two Australasian Darters,
Anhinga novaehollandiae.

I just threw in this baby Pelican because it was so cute with
its mouth full. Note the change of water colour with an 180
degree directional change in photographing.

  1. Well, they sure look like the cattle egrets that we have here in the desert! I found two of them last weekend during my afternoon walk. They like to land at one of our local resorts and I see them there almost every day.

  2. Nice example of the peaceful co-existence of species. Kind of looks like two different species in the first? That baby pelican is just too cute. Great captures.

  10. Did I go to this same place, we were driving from Queensland to the border of NSW, and at the river, there were many pelicans.

My teaching space is called Kotuku, which means egrets.

  12. Sorry I could not get closer to the birds, there was a barricade (Health & Safety nonsense). The Egret was one of the larger ones, definitely not a cattle egret.
Mick, I had tipped the second one to be a white face heron to but the grey one, of which there were several
I guess to have been our of the herons yet not our large blue heron.

  13. I love the shot of the Pelican. A bird I've only ever seen in captivity.
Not sure what particular Egrets they are in the first shot, but very handsome. A Heron between them, and the birds behind, very much like our Cormorants here.
I really enjoy seeing the different birds from other countries.

  17. Love your photos! Pelicans used to be my favorite bird from around here. Now, I just can't make up my mind so all of the coastal birds are tied for first! LOL You know, I've never seen a baby pelican.

  19. Dear Aria, It’s been awhile since I visited your blog the last time and I am the one who has to apologize to you for that. There's never been enough time for me to catch up with all the posts of my blogging friends whose sites I enjoy to visit. I read your comment on my blog with great pleasure. It is beautiful and touching at the same time. Your visits to my blog always make me happy and you are always welcome and your comments appreciated whenever you find the time.
Your posts are beautiful as always and I enjoyed in all the photos very much especially because of your summer time. How strange I was feeling when I saw those so inviting red and crispy cherries hanging on the branches...and when I heard you’re munching...LOL I enjoyed the beautiful flowers of your rhododendrons and surprised with the skeleton photo and again, I admired your photos of desert sunrise, water droplets on green leaves, spider web etc....
Thanks for sharing all these beauties with us and thanks again for your visiting my dear Aria!
Warm greetings from cold and snow Sarajevo, :-))

  26. Hi Arija, lovely shots. Your birds are: from the top 1 Little egret (I think - but could be an immature great Egret), 2 White-faced Heron, and 3 Great Egret.
