MY WORLD ~ 12 Temperate Rainforest

One of our favourite haunts in Victoria, Australia
is the temperate Rainforest in the alps. These giants
are only 70 years old, a regrowth forest after the
1939 fires destroyed the original stands which were
hundreds of years old with trees up to 400' tall.

These tall timbers grow along the Acheron Way
we have sought solace here for over 50 years, escaping
the close quarters of metropolitan living.

Stresses of University exams were often washed
away on walking tours along the then unsealed
track and feet cooled in the Acheron river.

All photos can be enlarged.

Thanks to Klaus and the MY WORLD team for
giving us a chance to display places dear to us.

BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY WEEKLY ~ 9 Egrets and Ibis

Please engorge for a better look.

These birds were photographed in April at the
Wetlands in Yeppoon, Queensland, Australia.

Flight of the Egret

Although the water levels were down, it was still
pretty exciting. Egret, White Ibis and one
Straw-necked Ibis, Threskiornis spinicollis in flight.

Frogmarching White Ibis, Threskiornis molucca
one got lucky and caught his breakfast.

TODAY'S FLOWERS ~ 12 Rose Extravaganza

For best effect, all Roses can be enlarged!

I am testing your endurance, look at as many or
as few of them as you choose. I bring you some of
my favourite roses from last summer.
This summer, with our prolonged drought there are
only two still flowering next to the house.
The other 148, are dead or dying, as are a number of trees.
Back to happier times, this is 'The Crocus Rose'
it is hard to pick a favourite, but comes very close.

Another white Rose I dearly love, 'Sombreul'
with a sweet, gentle scent. This one is actually still
flowering.

Like 'Sombreul', this is another David Austin Rose,
'The Prince', an almost black red with a heady perfume.

'Abraham Darby' another that fits snugly into my
favourites basket. A Rose of great distinction with
blooms the size of saucers, a wonderfully perfumed
repeat flowerer growing to a good six feet.

'Friendship' , great fragrance and constant,
abundant blooms.

A delicate flowered rose that was a gift after fire
destroyed our house and garden 25 years ago. The
tag said 'Cupid' which however it is not. It's flowers
are less than 1" across, a delicate shell pink, blooming
from early Spring to early Winter with a sweet scent
and the dearest little jewels of rose hips. It is close to
6' high and blooms all over all the time.

'Eiffel Tower', it is easy to tell by the buds whence
the name. Another rose blooming constantly
all year round with the headiest scent.

'The Childrens' Rose' , royalties from each plant sold
go to the U.N. Childrens' Relief Organization. A perfect
bud opening to a full petalled quartered heart with
a great scent. A strong, vigorous bush constantly
flowering during the growing season.

This wonderful climber I have cherishd for 35 years,
it has perfect buds though short stems, a lovely scent
and is a delight in a posy.

'Angel Face', another perfumed wonder peeking
out from a carpet of Camomile

'Sparrieshoop', an elegant singe with delicately
pointed buds. More a rambler than a bush rose.

'Peace' which has such an uplifting history, still
the perfect survivor.

Climbing 'Gold Bunny' with its head well above
the 5' fence, reaching for the sky.

'Sutter's Gold' a semi-double with strong and
beautiful scent and perfect buds

and so we come to 'Polo Club' a Rose that lights
up the garden like a perfect sunset.

An interloper in my garden sneaking in under
a false name, but so beautiful I could not let it
go even though it is very thorny.

now we reach the grand finale saved for
'Just Joey', a Rose that has that 'je ne sais quoi',
that little extra something. The colour tonings
are perfect as is the bud, bloom and scent!

Another day if you can tolerate it, I may give
you more.

SkyWatch *20 Yet Another SUNRISE

Please click on all or any to enlarge!

The skies have been mediocre this week so here
is the last golden sunrise we have enjoyed.

It rose in streaks of molten gold sweeping the sky

Barely shedding a little light further up in the sky

as the sun burst forth in a glowing blaze
my eyeballs aching, my head in a daze
I hid behind these sheltering trees
and give you the next shot to give your eyes ease
of a clear and sparklingly bright spring sky
with green trees gently kissed by a breeze.

The Logo unlocks skies around the world, enjoy!

To Klaus and our industrious SkyWarch team,
as ever my thanks for providing this meme.

MY WORLD ~ 11 Coffin Bay National Park

All photos can be enlarged for full effect. Just click
on the photo and enjoy.

COFFIN BAY was discovered by Matthew Flinders
on Feb. 16th. 1802. He named the Bay after Sir Isaak

Coffin, the Resident Naval Commander at Sheerness

where his ship, the Investigator was fitted out.

The weather was, to say the least, interesting!

Pacific Gull Larus pacificus

Engage low ratio and drive along two wheel ruts in
the sand, come over a rise and voila! A beach to die for
romantically sequestered under a layer of spume from
the violently thundering brakers, edged by pristine
massive sand dunes. Sheer heaven for those who avoid
beaches with ten people per inch!

A little car park in the dell and hiking up this to me,
sheer cliff. Some twenty minutes later even I made
it huffing and puffing to the top. To discover that my
hammering heart was well worth it!

This was the view to the left. When we looked to the right,
disappointment was writ large on our faces, the beach was
OCCUPIED! Shock, horror!

There stood a fellow surf fishing. On closer inspection,
he wasn't a bad bloke at all and even showed us the
sea Salmon he had caught for his dinner. Pity he only
had one, we would gladly have bought one off him.
As you can see, the weather was thickening and we
hot footed it back to our vehicle.

Exploring further, we were greeted by this lovely
rainbow so we knew we were on the right track.
I photographed many wildflowers (see post below),
and when the weather had passed, we were treated to
these pristine dunes below.

As we left the park to return to our lodging we
we did so by the gentle light of the setting sun.

The world is large and varied, click on the Logo on
the right and let yourself be surprised at the beauty
you find there!

To Klaus and the MY WORLD team, as ever my thanks
for providing us with this vhicle to display that which
is dear to us.

TODAY'S FLOWERS ~ 11 Australian Dryland Flora

Here are some of our Native Wildflowers ,
survivors in coastal sand dunes and desert country.

The Desert Wattle, no more than 18" high in the
Little Desert Nat.Park blooming it's little heart out

These I found in coastal sand dunes on the
Eyre Peninsula. I have tried to find their name,
but even in the Nat. Botanical Gardens there is
no listing for them. I have seen them grow into a
4' bush covered with these pea shaped flowers.

Sturt's Desert Rose, quite a large bloom 3-4" across.

A beautiful Banksia flowering on a coastal cliff,
grows to a medium sized tree.

The lovely little Sun Orchid in the Little Desert.

Another low growing, profusely flowering desert
dweller.

The Pincushion Hakea, Hakea laurina, needing a
litttle more water but quite stunning when covering
a 15' bush.

and last but not least, the stunning red Correa

Just a small selection of some off our dryland flora.
My native flora books are not to hand at present so
botanical names are in short supply. Enjoy the colours.

Please visit flowers around the world via Logo on right.
My thanks to Luiz Santilli Jr., Denise B. Castro and
Laerte Pupo for their splendid organization of this meme.
