Shadow Shot Sunday ~ Town and Country

Last week we bought about half a ton of tiles and guess who
had a flat tyre as soon as they were loaded up???

While the Prof pumped it up so we could get to the next garage,
your's truly was checking out others for our verandah . Had to be
traditional since our house was built in the 1850's. After the 1983
bushfires only the walls still stood but they were the oldest walls
on Mt.Lofty so the tiles need to have the same look.

For a contrast and because I'd rather live in a forest than a
house, here are some shadows from our wild wood on the
farm.

All photos enlarge as usual.

To stand in a shadow or out in the sun and look at one, go to
Tracy at Hey Harriet and enjoy some cool shadows.

SkyWatch ~ Goolwa Sunset Part 2

. . . and so the sky show continues with Hindmarsh Island
lit up like a Christmas tree

as the Christmas lights fade, a magical rainbow appears

and grows brighter still.

Off to the side the voluminous rain clouds colour up

as the rainbow intensifies and the surrounding clouds lose
some of their pink.

The horizon below the pink cloud dulls to blue, yet all is not
done yet, the dynamic skies are still in store for next week.

Tune in again next week for the exciting part of this particular sunset.

Nature Notes ~ The Wonders of Spring

The wonders of spring burst forth in ever greater measure,
I step outside my door and my senses are swayed by an
onslaught of scents. The orange tree in full bloom, a mass of
roses, philadelphus and scented orchids. The wisteria has just
finished as have the apple blossoms, yet in their place there are
drifts of white and pink hawthorns in the paddocks.

A tree peony bows her head to listen to the chatter of
forget-me-nots.

The shade house is bursting with sprays of orchids

and lilacs, although near the end of their season, still exude
their bitter-sweet perfume.

A few pelargoniums have recently found their way into my
garden and add an extra splash of colour.

Also these little purple daisies, Felicia augustifolia.

Another find and new addition so dear to my heart, a wildflower
in the country of my birth that grows on the wayside between
where my elder brother lived and where he now lies. Precious
memories awaken with the ringing of these beautiful blue bells.

Last but not least, springtime is the time for shearing the sheep
and tomorrow this little one will have trouble recognising its
own mother who will be slender as a willow wand when relieved
of her heavy fleece.

There is so much more I would lie to show you but one must
not bore on for ever.

Watery Wednesday ~ Creek Crossing

In the North Flinders Ranges the country and driving gets a
bit rugged. What seems like a puddle from a distance,

Is a little different once you are in it.

A view to the left

and heading out again. As you can see by the steep bank, one
seldom can gauge how deep it is in the middle or whether the
flash flood has dug some axle breaking holes in the ford.

This time we were lucky.

All photos enlarge for better viewing.

Thanks to 2sweetnsaxy for getting our feet wet on Wednesdays.

MY WORLD ~ Wirrealpa Station

We finally arrived at our destination after two days of steady
driving, Wirrealpa Station in the Flinders Ranges of South
Australia, a sheep and cattle run catering also to the intrepid
traveller seeking peace, quiet and skies that go forever in the
rugged Australian Outback.

Our quarters above, consisted of a kitchen and huge dining room
in the forefront and bedrooms in the shearer's quarters behind
our red farm ute. The other building in between we made use of
as a studio.

Above, a view towards the creek with the amazing array of green
tones by courtesy of the recent rains.

Below, one of the many honeyeaters I photographed but could
not identify.

The cooking facilities were modern electric or this delightful
original cast iron stove which, as is obvious, we much preferred.
Not only did it provide comforting warmth but it was big enough
to house a number of large dye pots as well as the ubiquitous kettle
and our delectable meals catered for by my utterly wonderful
daughter India.

The evening light accentuated the colours of the native hopbush
to perfection.

A little entertaining at the end of the day as our hosts joined
us for drinks and we all lived it up a little.

Another view of our accommodation with the the blue hills
in the distance

and a few swishes of the paintbrush on the verandah.

There are a lot more pictures where these came from, who knows,
maybe another day . . .

This is the world that sings to my soul and thanks to the MY WORLD
Team, I could show it to you.

TODAY'S FLOWERS ~ From a Dear Friend's Garden

Recently I visited a dear friend in Goolwa and gleaned these
beautiful flowers from her garden.

Princess lilies glowing in the grass . . . .

A daisy bush and pelargoniums . . . but what a show!

As we grow older, so do the things around us. Nothing on this
earth is permanent.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ Shadows of the Past

Kanyaka Station, just south of Hawker, South Australia.

Only shadows on the ruins remain of the hopes of the third
son of an Irish earl. A tragic story of the past, do check out
the link.

A sunny late afternoon and shades of times gone by creep
over the landscape and remains of a once thriving homestead.

There were many, many buildings, almost a small village.

Beautiful stonework, even a stone door mat.

Memories imprisoned by the shades of time.

The people are long gone, as are the sheep and cattle, only
passing travellers or tourists wander here now.

Enlarge if you wish for a better look.
