Shadow Shot Sunday ~ Breathing Space

A place where I can breathe, Hawker, the doorway to the
Flinders Ranges. Doesn't look like much, does it?
That is the whole point, dryland Outback leading to the
spectacular Ranges, haven of artists and those who seek a
combination of beauty and solitude.

Early morning, promising a wonderful day . . .

In country like this, what other possibility is there?

SkyWatch ~ One Element of a Sunset

This week I had a sunset and a half. That is why I am only
giving you this one element of these clouds shooting into the
sky like fireworks. This skyshow is happening directly over-
head with me facing more north than any where else.

My camera and I were mesmerised by all the wonders developing
around us so just imagine what was going on in the west and east
while this was going on at the zenith.

From a gentle sweep, to gold to rose . . . next week, more!

All Photos grow when tickled, enjoy.

World Bird Wednesday - Yellow-Rumped Thornbill

Seldom do I ge the chance to capture this little bird, the
Yellow-Rumped Thornbill, Acanthiza chrysorrhoa, in a tree.
They are chattery ground feeding birds usually seen in small
flocks in gay abundance in my garden.

This one I captured in the park not 15' away from me and I
had my 300mm lens with me for a change. Unfortunately
the light was not in my favour but the Thornbill posed for
me for quite a while.

Luckily most salient features are visible. The black and white
markings around the eyes as well as the white dots on the head.
The head pattern makes it so identifiable since it is the only
Thornbill sporting polka-dots.

All photos enlarge for closer inspection.

MY WORLD ~ Quorn, South Australia

Quorn is a little out of the way country town a hop and a skip
from the rugged Outback. The gateway to the Flinders Ranges
and once a thriving country town, but asthe seasons changed
and the and rural prosperity declined,it now relies mainly on
the tourist trade.

The main street has remained traditional and is quite charming

with an occasional corner store or two. If you wonder at the
lack op people, wonder no more, not everyone gets up with
the sun as I do. They were either still abed or at breakfast.

The old railway station is beautifully kept up since there still is
a steam train running from here in all but the fire dangerous
summer months. The train has been restored and is run entirely
by volunteers.

A few hotels from the Victorian era are still in business and
we normally patronise The Criterion when travelling north.

They are rather nice with their 12' wide cast iron verandahs.

TODAY'S FLOWERS ~ Clematis

High up in my shade-house, my lovely magenta Clematis
flowers regardless of the heat and dry,

of attacks by locusts,

it sets seed

and blooms anew, now that is resilience!

Nature Notes & SkyWatch ~ Heatwave Sunset

As I dribbled water on my collapsing plants in the slightly
cooler ( still 35C) part of the late afternoon, the light changed
and without looking up I raced for my camera.

Photos are in consecutive order as snapped . . .

This is what I saw as, with camera primed, I hit the outdoors,

click! Promising, I thought . . . click!

What a change in seconds, is this it???

Change is like a holiday so here comes more colour,

only to treacherously fade again,

Before the grand finale. Everything has a silver lining, even
a severe heatwave or as the Northern Hemisphere are having,
ice storms and blizzards. Could a bird have a prettier perch
than a sparkling, ice covered twig?

If you want to get a tan, enlarge at your peril but do put on
some sunscreen first.

The garden droops with crisped flowers but the sunsets are fantastic!
