SkyWatch ~ 26 Mainly Blue & a Surprise

This week, I give you blue, our summer skies
condensed into one post.

See how the Galahs have stripped the outside leaves?

With enough birds, they will eventually kill a huge tree.

When Large Eucalyptus die through fire or other
causes, we leave them standing for nesting habitat
and carbon sequestration. On the gound they take
up a lot of pasture space. When they do fall, we cut
up the branches but leave the trunk as shelter for
lizards and snakes so necessary for eco-balance.

The Crows or Ravens, hard to tell at this distance

  1. Silly galah. (Isn't there a book with that name?)
Great shot of the bird on the tree top. I love your posts for all the beauty and teaching and love in them.

  2. I like the crow and the photo of the birf soaring in the sky.

My parents lived on th eGold Coast. Mum hated the crows. To the Chinese, crows were not auspicious birds.

  3. a wonderful collection of sky shots, Arija. that red bird against the clear blue summer sky is an eye catcher.

  4. Oh nice! The blue is the bluest I have seen in so long... it looks warm and I welcome warm!! =)

  5. Love that sunrise photo, it's been a while since I've seen a sunrise like that around here.

  6. My dearest Arija, your photographs and description of them reveal you absolute love for nature. I appreciate all of these very much as they inspire me and make my face break into a contented smile. I am still envious of your skies.

    ReplyDelete
  7. i guess even though the birds strip the tree and it dies, it ends up providing protection for creatures on the ground. In Mother Nature's plan everything has a role... Nice post, Arija!

  8. I swear, Arija, your skies down there are more beautiful than ours! I'm sooo envious!!

  9. Beautiful Sunrise!!! Love the other shots too...I love birds of any kind, even crows. They are so cute in the spring when they are building nests. They make this call that I call talking trash to thier mate. Enjoy your day!!

  10. Wow..that sunset is so intense and beautiful! Love the bird flying and the one at the tree top. Those are great shots! It sounds like you practice good ecology and care for the environment around you.

  11. As always, your photos take my breath away! Love the blue sky and the birds and there are no words to accurately describe the beauty of that sunrise. Thanks you, Arija, for all the beauty and wisdom you bring into my life with all your posts.

  13. Hard to imagine that such a beautiful bird can be so destructive. Great pictures.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Enjoyed your description of how everything all fits together. And what a blue!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. You have such fantastic colourful birds - and sunrises Arija - it all looks so exotic.

    ReplyDelete
  16. It seems to me that Australians are very aware of their nature. I like how you leave the trunks for the fauna! The world could do with more of that!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Beautiful pictures, the crow on the top of the tree is a great shot and those blue skies....wow! Wish we had a bit of that here right now :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. It is all very beautiful. I like very much how you leave the dead trees to live on as shelter and habitat for the wildlife.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I want to come back to Australia
But now I am home again. Thanks for sharing. Beautiful pictures.

  20. Beautiful sky images!

That little Galah bird is an interesting fellow - I hope there are not too many of them around.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Blue, blue - I think you really have the blue sky much more than we have!
We had it too today, it is so rare here, that it alone can make one very happy :)

Your surprises are gorgeously captured against that blueness, you are so talented!

  22. Beautiful series of photos and the sunrise was magnificent

    ReplyDelete
  23. The blue sky I have, but the magnificent birds, no. Thank you for beautiful pictures!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Great shots, expecially the sunrise.

    ReplyDelete
  25. If I'm not mistaken, ravens are a variety of crow -- a really really BIG variety.

You have some wonderful shots here, my favorites would have to be the raven and whatever the red-chested bird in flight is. And of course the sunrise.

Can't wear gloves when I'm actually shooting, makes it impossible to get a feel for the shutter so my "trigger control" gets all messed up. But you can believe I had them on in between!

  26. Oh to have the freedom of the skies....

Great shots of the birds and the sunset too!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Birds in flight are always frim favourites with me.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wonderful pictures and accompanying thoughts.
That rook, Raven, Crow which ever. They manage to break the new growth on the tree branches as they balance on the top most.
    Still its a lovely picture.

  29. Sensational photos, the last one is my favourite, wow.

    Have a great weekend!

  30. Ah, yes, the freedom of the skies! Nice series of photos Arija. Are you feeling better?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I like the picture of the large Eucalyptus tree against the blue sky. When I walk in the wilderness I am always drawn to the dead trees and love how they provide shelter for small creatures.

    ReplyDelete
  32. These are beautiful photographs. The one of the crow on the top of tree is great. I can do without crows but I absolutely love the ravens....smart, smart bird! Thank you for sharing and happy spring...ooops, happy fall!

  33. Gorgeous images of your summer skies! Beautiful one of the crow with wings outstretched!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Beautiful blue skies, and your commentary is so interesting as you explain about the birds and trees. Your sunrise is gorgeous, thanks for sharing! And thank you for stopping by my blog and commenting... wouldn't that old mailbox look even more lovely with black eyed susans growing around it?! That is my plan, to plant some wildflowers at its base, whether it is the old mailbox or we manage to get the new one in place!

  35. Wonderful sunrise and beautiful bird shots. I enjoyed the info on the eucalyptus trees and their value in nature even when fallen.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Glad to hear that dead timbers are left to make new soil and provide wildlife habitat. Great firery sunset.

    ReplyDelete
  42. You took some great shots of your beautiful skies. I enjoyed all of these and the birds are such a pleasure. Too bad they damage some of the trees.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I was just out looking at some of the birds favourite trees and they are usually the barren ones with no leaves or needles.. at least for the large birds...

    ReplyDelete
  44. "Birds of a feather"....

These are definitely NOT the same ones. Pretty!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Thanks especially for the birds! It's not that jays and mourning doves and pigeons are boring, exactly, but one's heart leaps on seeing a red-tailed hawk or even a barred owl at evening. Even your ravens look exotic from "up here."

    ReplyDelete
  46. An excellent, informative post. The trees have a role to play even after dying. Those sunrises are worth getting up for - that is clear.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thank you for lovely view of your area. I commend you for leaving debris for the wildlife. The orangs sky is stunning.

  52. Such beautiful photos all of them. e certainly had the awe factor. No doubt about it. But I loved the one of the raven about to sit down in a treetop. And the dead treetrunk was very decorative. I'm so pleased to hear that you work with the nature and not against it.

    ReplyDelete
  53. These are just amazing. I admire your work very much.
