Shadow Shot Sunday ~ On a Country Walk

I could not wait until dusk for my morning constitutional,
so off i trundled after lunch, Up the road that splits our farm
to the top of the hill and through the magic living gate that
almost marks the end or the beginning of our place.

As I passed the shadows a friendly ant of the Myrmacia family
crossed my path

to disappear into the depths of the shadows cast by our sentinels.

All photos enlarge at a touch.

  1. Good morning!!! I love your shadows but wait one dang minute...

    How big is that ant?

It looks like the size of a camel!!!

Please tell me you have this high powered macro lens and you were looking for ants rather than just walking by and then see an ant just like that for that is the biggest ant I have seen.

That is a giant ant! Are they edible or perhaps the question may be, am I edible to it?

  2. I like ants as long as they are not inside the house. They are the neatest mob! I spend hours observing them in the garden. They collect their dead! Wow!!!

Ooooh! Good night! I love you. I hope I have something for your eyes when you wake up in the morning...let me see... Sweet dreams! Tsup!

Nice! I took an entomology class in college and fell in love with photographing bugs. I don't like bugs in my bed, but I love to see them photos!

  6. I like the trees that serve as the portal, the gateway to/from your abode. They appear as sentinels, perhaps offering a friendly wave to all visitors

Ants might not be big, this one's shadow is impressive, almost bigger than the subject. Happily, he obliged the inquisitive photo artist.

Western Oz has a rough hewn beauty. A lovely arid landscape!

  7. Always love the walks you take us on and always such lovely shadows -- including the bug!! I love seeing up close and personal pics of them as long as I don't end up with them crawling up my leg! Delightful post and photos as always, Arija! Enjoy your weekend!

I wonder, do you feel alone out back or is living there a lonesome life?

The desolation of the space around the trees seems significant but then I grew up in farmland country and there is something green everywhere we look.

  25. I came here to give you an extra long hug, only to find that I have already crossed your path. You see, my best friend in high school nicknamed me Ant and I've had a fondness for them ever since. Thank you for not squishing me on your walk.

Oh, Arija. I read your comment at Ces's and I must strongly protest. You offer so much with your beautiful views and warm words. I cannot tell you how much they mean to both Ces and me.
