World Bird Wednesday - Grey Fantail

The Grey Fantail, Rhipidura albiscarpa, is widely spread in
Australia and nearby islands, only absent in the driest of deserts.

It is a welcome autumn visitor to my garden, remaining usually
until the really hot weather strikes in late spring.

Here you see it in my messy autumn bed along the front of our
house on the farm, perching on a Lilium regale support.

A back-to-front view with the splayed tail in front and head at
the other end. What is in-between, I leave to your imagination.

Here it is flirting on one of my unkempt Cymbidium orchids,
I am ashamed to say I haven't cleaned them up in quite some
time.

Are you photographing me??? Did you get a permit???

If you don't stop, I'll go into attack mode, so watch out!

  1. Hi there - they are great little birds - they do seem so brave - but when you build your nest in the kinds of places they do I suppose you need a bit of bravery.

  3. he is lovely! love his dark coloring!

yes, we've been fortunate to have some trees and bushes stay green in our heat and drought while others have turned brown and are losing their foliage. the grass is mostly straw. but fall is coming soon (i hope) so maybe we'll get some refreshing rains. :)

  12. You sure caught the personality of the fantail very well Arija. Very brave bird for being a couple of ounces! It would be fun to see your garden in full regalia!

  13. Hi there - and what a splendid neck of the woods it is!

I pretty sure that only the Northern part of the Prom is open at present. I think most roads beyond the old air field are still closed. They had 25% of the normal annual rainfall in 24 hours a while ago and there was serious flooding.

I would check "Park Web" if I was you to see what the state of play is.
