TODAY'S FLOWERS - Australian Natives

With over 1,000 species of Eucalyptus trees native to
Australia, there are always some in flower no matter the
season.
Their leaves are aromatic and many are excellent dye plants
as well. Their colour range in flowers is from white, through
a variety of pink and orange to startlingly bright red through
all possible shades.

The flowers on this lemon variety are spectacularly large.

Another tree of many species is the Melaleuca. This lilac
pom-pom variety is a favourite of mine. A fairy young specimen
with aromatic leaves and bark, it is a large and dense bush in
my garden, a host to many nests of little birds and a very busy
place in Spring.

Eucalyptus ficifolia, a native of Western Australia, is just coming
into flower and bursting it's little caps off to reveal it's pretty
flowers. In full flower, the tree is one mass of colour.

Flowers brighten our days and you will find many more by clicking on
the Logo and adding your's as well.

  6. I've seen Eucalyptus in southern California, but never in flower. They smell like cough drops to me.
I am so happy to see all these colorful flowers, especially during our winter. Seems like a remarkable summer of growth and new/returning critters. Hope you are well.

  9. Aria, thanks for adding some much needed color for those of us in the midst of winter. We have no snow here, just cold temps and no flowers I bloom.

  10. Hi, Arija-- Beautiful flowers! In Florida we have Melaleucas, very invasive trees from Australia that form dense stands and crowd out native Cypress, willows and almost all other vegetation. They have somewhat similar flowers, and are blooming right now.

  15. Hi Arija, they are all beautiful. I thought most eucalyptus are trees, are there bushy types too? The center island near our office has big eucalyptus trees, an Australian friend who visited called it the Australian island. However, they are all very tall and i can't see if they flower at all.

  16. I enjoy the fragrance of the Eucalyptus plant...oh my did I spell that right...anyway, I so enjoy it, but of course had never viewed the flowers before. How glorious they must be. Is it true that the Koala only eats one, or two varieties?
