TODAY'S FLOWERS - Spring on the Mountain

My poor neglected Mountain house and garden but even neglect
cannot suppress nature.

Weeping cherry trees at the entrance

and, oh so pretty when you get closer.

In the bed opposite, the magnolia is mainly in bud

but one flower is already fully open.

Grape hyacinths, Muscari, make carpets of blue under the trees

and clumps of daffodils a charming contrast.

It is sad that, due to age and physical condition, I can no longer keep
this historical 3 acre garden in prime condition. Life moves on and we
all have to adjust to the possibilities or not.

At this stage I am happy to pass the baton to a younger generation.

After all, we can still enjoy flowers, even if their care is no longer our responsibility.

  2. Spring enchantment. Thank you. I am not certain our magnolia will flower, but the crab apple is becoming a joy and the daffodils and tulips are worth the pain that is now only a memory.

    1. Our crabapples, Malus floribunda and ionensis as well as a dark one, are all just splendid. The 300 tulips I put in (very late) this year are an absolute picture but my back and joints still have not recovered.

  8. Hi Arija, thank you so much for sharing these delightful photographs with us at Today's Flowers. Always nice to hear that there is Spring happening on the other side of the world :) I am enjoying our cooler weather, have the all the windows open and it is so fresh out there. Anyhow, just wanted to pop in and thank you for your support. Have a great week!

  11. Beautiful! How wonderful that you have a carpet of grape hyacinths when they charge a small fortune for a handful or small potted offering at the florists here in the city.
Flowers are such a blessing, as is the younger generation to help with the gardening! Have a lovely week Arija.

    1. Pam, the grape hyacinths and bluebells have had a good 160 years to multiply. Unfortunately, the same goes for the three cornered garlic! The grandies are taking over both house and garden, so much closer to Adelaide Uni. than the farm where I enjoy living.

  12. Arjia, it all looks so beautiful! And I am amazed that you could see all those same flowers here in the USA if you were in New England or Utah! Not so much here in AZ! thanks for stopping by! I do hope all is well with you!

  14. Beautiful house and flowers. It's good that you have grandchildren to take over the care of the garden. I am trying to make mine as self-sufficient as possible, but still many chores that need doing. As I was cutting back my perennial bed for winter I was thinking about how much longer I would be able to do it. It's much more rewarding to do it yourself, but reality intrudes and, as you say, life moves on.

  15. Hi Arija! Your lovely spring flowers look a lot like ours. Some of them are actually in my small garden in spring.
I am looking forward to staying in Tasmania from the tenth of December till January, 2nd.My whole family will be there.
    I hope you are okay.

  16. They are still very beautiful, and have a whimsical feel to them!

I am too, realizing that there are things that I can no longer do..

  17. Well now, if it's any consolation to you for not being able to care for them, I must tell you that they are gorgeous, and spring flowers are such a joy to see!

  18. You can definitely still enjoy them Arija (we do)....but then I was never such a good gardener as you were/are...so it wasn't as hard for me to give up..... I do still love flowers, maybe even more than I did when I was "responsible" for some of them.

Spring looks lovely there (and I wouldn't have thought neglect at all if you hadn't mentioned it.)

  26. Oh so very lovely these images are, as your Spring takes over and our colder weather arrives. It is always fun to share the seasons a bit backwards and have warmth thus all year long. I am back from a long journey and it is nice getting back in touch. I hope that you are well dear one~

  30. Aaaawww. I am so sorry about the latest difficulties. I can relate to them even though I did not have to deal with them directly, I knew the responsibility is enormous. Our eldest sister never wanted any of us to label the efforts and care we gave to our sister a burden. She told us it was our honor. Yes an honor and privilege though we felt the pain and sadness. I just want to let you know that I care for you and wish you the best. Tsup!
