OUR WORLD & Wild Bird Wednesday - Cape Barren Geese

A couple of years ago we went to Hindmarsh Island,
across the bridge from Goolwa, South Australia.

The Cape Barren Geese were grazing in a field next to the road.
There were bushes along the road, so I had to get out of the car
to get a shot.

I was used to the very tame flock on Kangaroo Island, so was
surprised at how skittish these were. Although I was behind
cover, they were on the alert as soon as I got out of the car

and took off after the first ground shot I got.

Suddenly they were all in the air, up, up, and away . . .

  9. You got some great shots anyway! I hate it when I try to get out of the car and scare something away. Getting good photos is a lot of work at times :-) Interesting looking geese.

Thinking of you with this heat today Arija - 42 degrees in Port Augusta mentioned on the news - I remember the end of term heat there - hope you are keeping cool - great photos of the Cape Barren geese - always lovely to see them featured in totemic aboriginal art works too - my favourite along with honey ants.
