TODAY'S FLOWERS - Christmas Cactus +

My Christmas cactus went crazy a good month before
Christmas - eighteen 6" diameter blooms with bright red
stamens lit up the shade house

 singly, in pairs and quartets

Meanwhile below them, my red Cymbidium sported more
spikes than I could count.

Unfortunately, a week later, they were all fried in our
unseasonal heatwave.

The moral of this story is: enjoy what you have,
when you have it.
Everything, including life, is here today and gone tomorrow.

  1. Oh wow. The stamens on the top one look to be pink like the ones I featured but the bottom ones are indeed red.
I adore your red cymbidium too - the only one I have ever coaxed into flowering and reflowering is a greeny-brown.

  15. Arija, such beautiful blooms and such a brief life! Truer words were never spoken! I love Christmas Cactus. I use to have some but we move around so much that I gave them all away! They now live in all the states I use to live in, LOL! You'll know I've settled down when I buy a new Christmas Cactus!
