OUR WORLD, Wild Bird Wednesday & Nature Notes - Arno Bay

The baked landscape around me makes me think of cooler,
happier times when the Prof and I went on short holidays.
Now, without a travelling companion,
these long drives are out of my reach.

The Eyre Peninsula, in the west of our state has plenty of
wonderful beaches and when heading further down the coast,
we stopped for a couple of nights at the caravan park in
Arno bay.

Looking back at the township.

We stayed in a charming little cottage right on the beach.

The only blemish to our stay was this young Pacific Gull
with a substantial lure dangling from it's nose.

Humans can piece their noses and hang bricks from them if they
like but wildlife should not be endanger by our detritus.

Unfortunately I had not the means for catching this
youngster to relieve it of it's burden.

Discarded by the sea, something that looks like a
collection of oddly shape eggs

and a lonely cormorants waiting for shoals of fish with little
hope on an outgoing tide.

I feel refreshed just thinking about it.

  10. I can empathise with this Arija. I can no longer go abroad because of health problems and if I feel sad then I get out the old diary/photo albums and trace our footsteps in past holidays and I too feel refreshed.

  12. so sorry to see the gull in that state; even Wires helpers probably would've had a task to capture it. The outlook for your holiday looks very special

  15. Lovely memories (well except for the poor seagull of course). If you are on the computer and able to look back in your archives I am assuming that you are safe from fire...hope things are getting a big better.

  16. I think it is so important to make wonderful memories on which to reflect when we are less able to go places and loved ones are no longer with us. Your photos are lovely, and the photo of the poor gull confronting - we should be more mindful of the effects of netting, plastics, and general carelessness in our interactions with sea creatures and birds and your photo makes a powerful statement.

  21. Well said, on the human / wildlife relations & consequences, Arija.
This looks like a lovely place to have visited.
We've been talking a lot about your weather conditions & ours lately. Our weather site showed that we've had nearly 150° (F) difference between our extreme temps this week. Glad you have these cool memories to refresh you! They warm me at the same time.

  22. First, thank you for the understanding comment on my blog. It really meant a lot to hear from you. I, too, traveled with my loved one for overnight trips to wonderful spots and so miss those happy times. I am sad that you lost your prof but happy that you have these wonderful photographs to bring back such exquisite memories.

  23. I don't like to travel alone, either, so I can sympathize. Your memories are wonderful photos. I hope that gull got some help :(

I'm sorry to see that gull this way.

  25. Thats not a good thing to see - lets hope the hook rusts before the gull is too damaged (you can always hope)

Even in the depths of summer I need to wear a thin wet suit when I snorkel - so there is not much left for the sun to burn!
