Wild Bird Wednesday & Nature Notes - Yellow-rumped Thorntail

This little Thornbill was making so much noise in my birthday
tree that finally even I could spot it

with the help of my monopod I managed to hold my
500mm lens steady enough to get some
recognisable images

cute tiny birdie isn't he?

busily picking off the tiniest insects all over the tree

and chattering away like a pack of monkeys

doing some acrobatics

and telling me in no uncertain terms to buzz off
with my camera.

I like the total camouflage effect with the white spots on it's
head against the tree rind.

  8. Stunning little bird. And given how fast the little birds move (make greased lightening look slow and predictable) stunning photos too.

  9. That last picture is amazing in the way it shows the bird camoflaged against the tree! It is an adorable little bird and I'm glad it made enough noise for you to see. (And glad you had a monopod -- I need to get one of those...maybe then I could take more pictures of small birds. If I could see them in the first place ))

  15. Lovely shots Arija, how i wish to have a 500mm lens too, haha! I am angered by the birds in my building in the city, as they are cutting all the tops of my plants, but just eat the portion at the cut. They just leave the tops there!

    1. Margaret, I did mention it in the heading but here is the Latin name as well: Acanthiza chrysorrhoa.

  18. Nice little bird - we had flocks (15 to 20) around the house with the swallows - but they were always in the long grass!

I was a bit chilly and damp when I took the swallow shots.

  19. Such an unusual looking bird. Its head markings seem to merge into the colouration of the bark on the trees.

  24. What a lovely blog. Thanks for stopping my blog. The four escorted and ten refers to Lincoln's Gettysburg address. At the time he gave it the U.S.Constitution was four score and ten years old.

  25. I think you did very well to get such nice photos of this thornbill. A 500mm lens is very hard to keep still without some kind of help!
