Wild Bird Wednesday - Drive-by shooting . .

Some time ago when travelling in the Australian inland,
in the middle of no-where
it was a good year for Emu

families of eight or nine kept popping up on either side

unfortunately, when going at 110km,
the conditions for bird photography are less than ideal

  3. Welcome back.
This is the very best kind of drive-by shooting.

  4. Great photos considering the circumstances, you were brave and optimistic even to try. I suppose that if you're going to attempt bird photography from a moving car then large, flightless ones are the ones to go for. I'd love to see these in the wild.

  5. Well, that's about 70 mph in ole US of A - can surely imagine the photo challenge of bird photography at that kind of hoof speed! Still, you'd be dang hard pressed to find an emu at ANY mph over here ;>))

Always a joy to see the natural happenings down yer way, Arija.

  9. Arija, This is the first time I've seen an emu outside of a zoo. You need to brake for emus!

  11. Awesome emu! Love that our Australian friends can post such different varieties of birds than we have in N America! Thanks for this treat!

  13. Would have never thought you were photographing from a moving vehicle. You managed to captured those emus quite well, Arija!
There are two emus here in Vienna's zoo. They have a large wooded area all by themselves. I see them regularly when I walk up to Schönbrunn's Gloriette. Although their accommodations are quite luxurious, I'm sure they'd rather run wild with their flock.

  14. Hello, dear Arija! So good to see you. I have never seen free roaming emu before. I would have had to stop my car and sing to them. :) Hope you are having a beautiful weekend. xo
