MY WORLD ~ 19 North of the Warrumbungles

At the northern side of the Warrumbungles lies
Coonabarabran, the Astronomy capital of Australia.
Not only are these mountains famous for their clear
skies, but also for their wealth of 250+ million year
old fossil finds. Here are but two examples of leaves
with beautifully preserved colours.

Onward for long, long stretches of just long long
stretches, when we came upon Chinaman's Pond
covered in the most beautiful water lilies in white

and masses of pink. We had two more stays in New
South Wales,usually abour 4-500km apart.
NSW is a large state, Queensland is very much
larger and entailed another sleep.

One of the points of interest in massive stretches of
nothing scenic in particular, or I was perhaps too
tired to be observant, we spied these two massive
Baobabs or bottle trees. Their pregnant bellies hold
water and many an old bushy wandering on foot in
this vast landscape was saved by gouging into this
handy water source.

Near a coffee break on the edge of a small town
was a little creek with enough water to cool my feet
in and attract this lovely dragonfly.

Happily we had by now crossed into Queensland
where Bouganvileas flourished in the warm climate

Next week, if you bear with me, we finally
reach the coast with again totally different
landscapes on the way.

TODAY'S FLOWERS ~ 19 Accent on Pink

I have had this lovely Tree Peony for more than
twenty years and was very sad to lose it this
summer due to our total lack of water.

Could this devoted Louis Armstrong fan possibly
leave a rose glorying in the name of 'Blueberry Hill'
in the nursery?.....in the inimitable words of Eliza
Doolittle, 'not b.... likely!'

This rose is called 'Sonia Reykel', it has a perfume

beautiful and old fashioned.

Shedding the Shackles

From dreariness of daily grind
leaving cares and woes behind
soaring like birds on magic wings
flying to new and wond'rous things

Round Gulf St.Vincent in chariot fair
300 miles swept away without care
on reaching the tip of Peninsular foot
the sea was lapping right up to our boot

Breathing delighted the humid air
forgetting the drought that led to despair
dear friends, great food and a glass or two
bring forgetful sleep to a dawn brand new.

Dear bloggy friends, forgive my shunning of your
cups of tea, 'twas not mere caprice that led me astray,
holiday settlements in the more remote regions do not
cater for guest internet.
I will do my best to catch up on all your doings ASAP!

Thoughts

When very small
I used to wonder
whence we came
and wither we would wander
*
Now, having eached
a grey-haired age
I am neither
wise nor sage
*
The dreams I dreamt
the paths I trod
have led no closer
or nearer to God.

Please click on photo, it is worth enlarging!

SkyWatch ~ 25 Summer Cloud

Enlarged they are much more effective.
Fickle Clouds

Clouds rolling by
the sky may darken
and to them
watchfully we hearken
*

The thunder rolls
with promise deep
yet all their drops
of rain they keep
*

and do not spare
from their great bounty
a drop to wet
the ground so bare
*

to those who wait
and watch and hope
the fickle clouds
say one word: Nope!
