GALAHS, Eolophus roseicapillus,
at sunrise
Galahs are very pretty birds, over the last
16 years, fron just a small handfull of birds on
our farm, they have multiplied to a flock of more
than200. When roosting in trees, they can strip
them of leaves, even large 100 year old
eucalypts, in a few days. Being seed eaters , they
multiply like rabbits where there are fields of grain
and stock water available. Before farming their
numbers were limited in dryland areas by the
lack of availability of water.
SULPHUR-CRESTED COCKATOO,
Cacatua galerita, in my garden.
Sulphur-crested cockatood have leonine strength in
their beaks. They can crack through finger bones as
easily as they tear apart pinecones to get at the seeds.

It's so wonderful to see these birds in the wild. We had a little cockatoo for many years
ReplyDeleteHello Arija !
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful birds... Ouah !
Great shots !
Have a good night !
What wonderful and beautiful birds and what great photos! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely Cockatoo! All are lovely....I certainly don't see any of those at my feeders :-)
ReplyDeleteI just watched a terrific and entertaining documentary on the parrot of Australia. Really amazing and beautiful birds; love your photos!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos Arija, remind me of my trip to Oz in February this year.
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky you have Parrots. They have a great energy to them. The closest place that we have parrots that are really easy to see are in San Francisco where a healthy and growing population of Red-masked Parakeets exist near Telegraph Hill. There is actually a very good documentary on the subject, if anyone is interested.
ReplyDeleteReally gorgeous birds! It's amazing how they can devastate an area, though. Really fascinating. We used to have Carolina Parakeets but no more.
ReplyDeleteOne of my dreams is to go to Australia to photograph the birds. I would love to just hear the natural sounds going on all the time.
ReplyDeletethe cockatoo is such a stylish bird!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely pose! I do wonder sometimes why I never see such beauty around here...lol.

It's so funny for me to see these colorful birds in the wild and not in a cage..I guess they wouldn't like our snowy winters too much..
ReplyDeleteHow did I misss your parrots? AND that fabulous Cockatoo. I love seeing what for us is exotic.
