BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY WEEKLY ~ 11

One of the birds of our region, the Regent Parrot,
Polytelis anthopeplus, a bird on the endangered list.

A bird of localised river region territory where a
great deal ot its natural habitat has been detroyed
for agriculture and towns.

This one is a male, but does not fit the book descriptin
precisely as his tail is a strong blue rather than the
suggested black.

  1. What an amazingly brilliant colored bird Arija. I love how the bright red accents of the bill and the wing patches contrast with the yellow, blues and greens.

Sorry to hear about its habitat being lost forever. We need to keep all of the birds we still have.

  8. Thank you for your postings - we used to live in Australia (Dandenong) for 6 years (1974-1980) when Australia was in need of teachers. We spent weekends roaming the bush, camera in hand searching for the wild terrestrial orchids -- like little elves, hiding in the grasses.....such a magical place Australia is.....it had such an ancient feeling....so once again, thanks for enabling me to see so much more nearly everyday!

  10. Beautiful!! It is very interesting to me that in nature the male is always the prettier one...what happened to us humans? It would be so much easier if we didn't have to be the ones to put on the makeup & fix the hair & wear pretty clothes! Let's let the guys to that for a change!

  13. It is a beautiful bird for sure. And he looks like he's found the solution to shrinking habitat - a nice pub!! All kidding aside, I do hope they sruvive the loss, we are doing to much of that to too many species world-wide!

  17. For those of you who wonder where the bird is, here is the answer. He lives with Hermann and Rita in Swan Reach in South Austraalia on the banks of the Murray river within the range of its natural territory. Hermann makes delicious red wine and they have a garden full of citrus, Avocado, peaches and other fruits, just drive in and pick up a bag of this or that.
