MY WORLD ~ Possum Hunting and Knitting

The Christmas Season is upon us, in honour of which my
beautiful granddaughter plucked the stars from heaven to
create this splendid Advent wreath which gives us all great joy.

*

Apart from catching possums which came down the chimney
like Santa into our house on the mountain and needed to be
evicted on a couple of occasions, my time has been taken up by
speed knitting a queen sized blanket.

Here it is being tried on for size on our bed.

My No.1 granddaughter has been wishing for one for some time
and since she has just attained her honours degree in mathematics
with first class honours, it was fitting that I finally sit down no
matter how hard it was on my hands, and knit her one from
the lovely lustre wool off our own Leicester sheep. The wool was
commercially spun and hand dyed by her mother and knitted by
her grandmother. If that does not keep her warm as toast, I don't
know what will.

*

Finally finished! Now maybe I will find some time to visit
some of my bloggy friends again, at least when my hands
recover enough to write comments as well.

At last I feel that I have achieved something this week.

  1. An honors student in mathematics! Well then, she can certainly "count" her blessings in having woolly sheep and a talented knitter-grandmother.
    Beautiful.

  3. The blanket is absolutely gorgeous; I have not knit a large lace pattern in years due to hands....but socks, ah yes. And scarves.
What a lovely gift for your granddaughter!

  5. What a beautiful blanket, Arija! I know your granddaughter will love it and treasure it always. Love the decorations on your tree! And hopefully the possums are gone for good this time! It's that lovely time of year to look for and find the good and the beautiful that will always be there -- a little harder to find in some cases, but there nevertheless.

    Have a wonderful week!

  7. Hi Arija, you are a great artist! I only feel so sorry for your poor possums in the chimney, I had the same problems with birds coming into the house or stove (burning), we solved it by a special top upon the chimney like a hat of wirenet, all was ok afterwards. Be sure you have a great granddaughter too, artist and supermathematician! Don't forget your gifted daughter-artist with the special woolmaking, you can't get something like this in a shop! greetings and Merry Christmas form Austria!

  11. It's absolutely beautiful Arija, and all the more so because the wool came from your sheep and was dyed by India and knitted by you! What a wonderful gift from the heart. Congratulations to your granddaughter on her degree.

  25. Warm as toast, nice! It looks to become a keepsake. My great grandmother once sewed me a quilt and it was treasured and hugged and kept me and sis snuggy for the longest time. Thanks for posing with it Arija.
