Nature Notes ~ Signs of Spring

Although the calendar says it is still winter, the garden has
other ideas. We have had some good rains lately though not
yet enough to be sure that the drought has broken. The dams
are still much less than half full.
*

*
The wallflowers give a nice splash of colour and the sugar snap
peas are begining to flower.
*

*
Likewise the broad beans. The tip growths of both peas and
beans are delicious in salads.
*

*
The very last rose, just a single bloom, on '4th of July'
*

*
and the first blossoms on the almond tree
*

*
and most importantly, the first three eggs of our beautiful
top knot grey goose . . . just delicious.

*
The duck and chickens think it is still too cold to share their
bounty with us.
*
Do wander over to Michelle at Rambling Woods to join in or see
more seasonal observations.

The broadbean plant is exceptional; I don't believe I have ever seen one quite like that. Very attractive blossoms.

  8. Lovely post Arija.Almond blossoms hold a special place in my heart. If it is possible to have a "totem flower" this would be it for me. Two old almond trees were my soul mates growing up,and the boughs creaked to softly disclosed wishes and dreams as I climbed in and around their branches.Spring was such a special time for us.I love the almond blossom photo you've provided , and know that the blossoms bring you happiness also.

  13. Sure is looking like spring. Glad you're getting some long needed rain. We've had a great wet monsoon season.

Thanks for reminding me. It has been a while since the last defrag. I'm usually much better about doing that. I'll run it tonight.

  14. Lovely series of photos. The one of the almond blossom is exceptional. Here we are seeing small patches of yellow leaves in the trees, and with the birds getting ready to migrate south and a bit of chill in the air, fall is just around the corner.

  15. Oh and I wish you a lovely trip into spring dear Arija..but your beautiful geese made me think of my old friend and how I would love to have a goose..but I can borrow them every spring here....My old friend's home is up for sale after her passing this spring. Will the new home owners ever realize what a magical place that little farm was in the midst of suburbia or how two old ganders are buried near their pond?...I guess I will hold the secrets close to my heart... stay well....Michelle

  17. Aria, I really enjoyed every photo that you posted. It seems to me those wallflowers smile at me. I love those little flowers and their lovely bright colors. I can see there will be peas and beans in your garden, and almonds as well; what beautiful blossom almond has! And your goose is cute and precious, of course :-) I enjoyed really beautiful moments in your garden :-)) Thanks for sharing.

  19. I laugh to hear you talk of spring when we are heading into fall! I have never eaten a goose or a duck egg. Sounds like you like them though. Do they taste different?
