World Bird Wednesday - Red-Rumped Parrot

Sorry I'm late. Some things are going on in my life at the
moment which make it hard to get up a post, let alone visit.

These little guys are a little bigger than Budgerigars and a
smaller than our Galahs. I snapped them at dawn in really
bad light and had to soup them up a little.

I tried really hard to get a decent shot of the red rump.

Here is a pair of them. It is quite a sight to see them in the air,
they are very fast flyers and all you see is the bright, almost
iridescent green and a flash of red as they pass by.

This is the best I could get of the red rump which is much
more visible when they lift their wings.

There were at least twenty in the flock but as soon as there
was enough light to photograph, they did the disappearing trick.

Photos enlarge if you wish and please leave me a comment it
you can, they make it easier to get through the day.

Thank you Springman for this enlightening meme.

  3. Oh, beautiful! I want to take a close look at male birds with shining feathers in rainbow colors and see them flying in the air. How gentle their eyes are!

  4. Arija, looking at these parrots in your yard is like looking at a pet store to me! They are so exotic and beautiful! I cannot imagine seeing them as "yard birds!"

I hope and pray things turn around for you today. Sending big birdy hugs from Massachusetts. (Can you feel my wings around you?)

  8. Do not worry about visiting back Arija -- I (and I'm sure all your readers) are just grateful to be able to look at your wonderful posts. The birds are wonderful and I've said this so often that I'm sure people are sick of it, but I can't get over that those exotic (to me) birds are just normal everyday birds!

  26. Hi there - these are great little parrots! I like them a lot. Makes me wonder if they were being named today if they would be called "Golf Course Parrots" or "Sports Oval Parrots" – that’s where I see them most often!

I have a recommendation for a place to stay on the Great Ocean Road if you are interested.

    Cheers SM
