Just look at us, aren't we sweet? We would never dream of
touching a leaf in your garden.
How can you send us away like this, we are totally innocent . . .
How could you think that anyone as peaceful and gentle as we
are, would strip all the leaves and twigs off all the young citrus
trees, the roses, the fruit trees and berry bushes and trample
what we had not eaten?
Well, here is the proof of the pudding, the gate is shut and one
is still inside our yard. It just takes one thoughtless person to
leave one of our 8 gates open and the whole flock sneaks in to
demolish all my hard work.
Ah, the joys of farming . . .
This all out war has lately been going on in Our World, what is happening in your's?

Oh, I love sheep, but after raising dairy and Pygmy goats for years, I'm fully aware of how crafty these critters are. I once had a doe goat, my best milker, that could get down on her knees, and crawl under the electric fence bawling the whole time to escape the pasture and nibble on everything in sight. I still loved her!

ReplyDeleteUh-oh! As adorable as they looked in your pictures, I can only imagine how destructive they can be. Reminds me of the time the cows got out of the field near my parents home and trampled all over my Dad's roses. The farmer was very apologetic but just like in your situation, someone had walked through his field and left the gate open.

You got some great shots and story, but I guess you would rather have your garden. It is a problem with gates, at least when it comes to cityfolks not used to them.

ReplyDeleteI think that they are beautiful sheep, and I have always wanted one, or two, or more,
but...they do eat and they do get into trouble and I can only begin to imagine if they came and did in my yard what they did in yours, how that would feel....
Oh, sorry for the devastation in your garden, Arija. But I'm sure it wasn't these beautiful, innocent sheep. (And really, as you say, it is the people who leave gates open who are to blame.)
