My how time flies . . .
A month ago I was afraid my birthday tree
- this flowering cherry -
would forget to flower for the second time in 43 years
but, hey presto, the first flower did open on the day, while the
rest of the tree was still in tight bud.
During the next week, buds kept unfurling to the very
top of the tree
scented and pretty, it was covered in pink ruffles and furbelows
in cascades of of sheer beauty.
It has been a beautiful spring indeed.
it has flowered only twice in 43 years? it is beautiful.

DeleteAnd a belated happy birthday from here as well. We have an ornamental cherry in our back yard. Its blooms are always a delight. Which has saved it - I am not usually a fan of the ornamentals. Your birthday tree looks much as our does - and it also opens bit by bit.
