OUR WORLD and Nature Notes - Mush . . . rooms

The dark mysterious forest

No, the big, bad wolf did not stalk me
he would not dare, I'm too quick on the draw . . .

meanwhile, I enjoyed what the forest floor offered
up for my delectation

these little dears, though wet, seemed quite happy with their lot

just a big slimy protecting it's young

this little one, no more than an inch across, was looking for
a friend but sadly, there was none about

but this was what I was looking for
just poking up it's head to look about

the parents were not too far away

I do love her frilly petticoat

and with all the darkness about
there was just one little sunbeam lurking . . .

my dog and I walked softly in this hallowed place
our footfall made no sound
our steps no mark at all

  1. I like your forest dark and deep but would be cautious around that amanita mushroom.

    1. It is alright Gaelyn, they don't bite unless you bite them and the gnomes are quite friendly.

  2. Wald

    bevor alles versinkt in Schlummer

    forest

Rustling in the leaves and faint clicking noise
the whispering wind in the hair at the nape
We hike through meadows and woodlands
seek out because it darkens soon

Now it is the time for deer for deer
Then it instantly on the prowl
to graze, to quench thirst and hunger
    before everything sinks into slumber

During the night, in the dark
    only rumors and owl owl
now and then a rustling and crackling
it is the wind of it will grab

It flees the veil dark night
the day awakens softly and gently
only here and there a delicate bird song
the sun mild beam then passes

Fog in the forest glade touch
the cold morning air is then also
    slowly give way to sunshine
    that plants grow and gedeih'n

Scent of damp earth in here
Wood and resin stimulate our senses
we take on the rest with delight
    enjoy the forest, the sun

. . Ārija

    1. It was not so easy Pat, there is a lot of debris on the ground from the logging.

  6. Wonderful forest magic Arija! The red and white polka-dot one should have an elf or a brownie under it, don't you think?

    1. Only the big slimies Gary, unless you want to get high on amanitas, I get my highs by seeing them rather than nibbling on them. The slimy ones are edible and really nice when pickled when they are at the button stage. Here they were well beyond their best and just this one little bunch of them.

  11. Your photos of the forest floor could have been taken here in my forest in CO, Arija - though it would have to be in September here. I believe those red fungi are called Magic Mushrooms and are poisonous and hallucinogenic.

  14. Magic. You remind me that it is too long since I have wandered through a forest. And to do so when it is damp and to enjoy the dappled sunlight is a very real pleasure.
