With the blessing of the recent rains, the grass around the
house was threatening to eat me up.
Gone are the days when I could use a lawn mower or even
my beloved brush-cutter that did such sterling service in keeping
a number of kilometres of road verge fire safe,
now I was hoping to just cut the grass around my present
abode, with a brush-cutter where I have to yank an electrical
cord around. Found one I can (maybe) manage to lug about
BUT
the same place also has a garden centre . . . a death trap for
the likes of me . . .
can you imagine paying good money to buy heaps of work??
Sure, that's me all over, and I really held myself back and only
bought
10 punnets of seedlings,
a blueberry bush in a small pot
(need to pot it up pronto before I can prepare a place for it),
a passionfruit (ditto)
and two bare rooted roses
(as though my 150
weren't enough for me
a couple of punnets of stocks for winter cheer
violas, pansies, primulas and lobelias (ditto)
inevitably, another cyclamen, the large leaf to the right is
the passionfruit
darling little violas in shades of pink
and how could I possibly leave these pretty faced pansies behind?
I guess, you've guessed it . . . I couldn't!
My only excuse is that I needed some flowers to post during winter
tee hee hee . . .
Go CRAZY girlfriend! Oh, hang on - you already did!!! Even though I have black thumbs, that doesn't stop me from trying yet again each year after being sucked in my the garden shop displays!! Happy winter!!

DeleteI hear you. Garden greed gets me every time. I love your selection - and doubt I could have resisted theme either. Which roses did you fall victim to? Scented?
ReplyDeleteEC, can you doubt it? I only buy roses by nose and repeat flowering. I could not go past 'Claire', the name of my grandson's intended and a blush pink centifolia, nor Othello, a deep blood red. How could I resist being strangled by a rose some dark night?

DeleteYou are funny, made me giggle. I know how you feel...you just couldn't stop yourself from bringing those sweet lovelies home with you. They do brighten the day! Very soothing colours you have chosen too. As for the grass cutting...everyone in our neighborhood seems to think we live in Beverly Hills. I live in a 2 acre woods and it takes me 5 hours to push my self propelled mower through and around those woods, and still keeping much of it wild. I told the husby, I want more wildflower and wild grass areas, so I do not feel I need to cut so much. Happy weekend

DeleteOh the lure of the Garden Centre/Nursery - I've wandered round quite a few in the sun and the rain - not the place to just go 'looking' tho lol
ReplyDeleteOff topic - we lived in Adelaide for several years in the 1990s - lived just up the road from that particular store when it opened - nearly put another specialist nursery up the road a bit out of business - don't think Peter Engel ever forgave them!
Also we've just had our wettest June day on record - flooding all over the city (and the state)

Cathy, where are you living now? I believe Adelaide had 70 mm yesterday. Unfortunately we are on the eastern escarpment of the Mt.Lofty ranges and in the rain shadow. We only had 43 mm.

DeleteGarden centres are a magnet for me too Arija - I always see so many things I simply cannot live without and then I get home and ponder on where I can possibly put it.
ReplyDeleteSame problem here Pat. I have no soil prepared and am scratching my head as to where and how. I find my maximum effort for the day can only be stretched to about 20 minutes. My ticker won't take any more.

ReplyDeleteWe have too to cut many acres of park and garden, I'm just not game to drive the thing since there are a number of steel sites. Once in a blue moon, on or other of the grandchildren do a whizz around my garden but everyone her has just to much on their plates.
