Wild Bird Wednesday - Coastal birds, New Zealand

Staying on the water's edge at Akaroa, on the South Island
of New Zealand,
we had some visitors to help clean up our scrambled eggs

don't know which gull this is, I just know it is different
to our silver gulls in Australia

sadly, the next morning we had to leave but at least the
coastal scenery was beautiful
and all those specks at the water's edge are, surprisingly,
Canada Geese!

Introduced to the country in 1905 as game birds.

Sorry my iPhone could not do them justice.

  1. Hello Arija, your gull visitors for breakfast is pretty. We see plenty of Canada Geese here, in fact they say there are too many of them. Have a happy day and week ahead. I wish you all the best in 2016, Happy New Year!

  4. Handsome gulls. I agree with Stewart - Red-billed Gull but I had to "Wiki" it.

We have Canada Geese too but they can become a nuisance if their numbers get out of control.

  6. Yes a bit different to our gulls Arija but never-the-less looks like they still squabble over food like our gulls do.
How lovely and green in NZ.

  7. Gulls seem to be beggars everywhere. How nice to stay along the water, even if for a few days.

  8. Fantastic scenery! With a view such as this, it's no problem putting up with noisy gulls.
    Thank you for sharing!

  9. Guard those scrambled eggs with your life! Gulls can be quite aggressive over here anyway. Fun pictures...and a great place to spend any time at all! Interesting about the Canada Geese ... They are more than prolific in Oregon as well, and never migrate.

  10. no matter what gull or where, they act the same way :) I like the images.
re your question about the Buff-anded Rail, it was close to the Bromfield Swamp and Chambers Lodge.
