SkyWatch ~ Kingston Sunset

Sorry guys, I went A.W.O.L. for a couple of days on the spur
of the moment. I drove Himself and me to Kingston on the
coast of the Southern Ocean to feast on crayfish before the
season closed. It is an approx. 300km drive but also the nearest
place for freshly caught crayfish. In the metropolis they are all
pre-frozen.

As a bonus I found this great walk along the Maria River to
the Pier that extends a long way into the sea and also has the
cray shop right next to it.

Reflected sunset clouds in Maria River as we hurry to catch
the main event.

I look up to see the moon clothed all in pink . . .

and at the edge of the world, a red, red sunset is tumbling
into the abyss,

spreading it's afterglow as far as the eye can see.

We sit at the end of the pier and drink in the glory of it all
and lo, as darkness deepens, Venus smiles dow on us and

dances in the wavering waves.

A perfect evening . . .

Sorry once again for being such a tardy visitor, I hope you know
I love all your blogs.

PS if you enlarge Venus, she becomes quite apparent.

SkyWatch ~ Mt. Remarkable Sunset

Back in the circuit again!

Our first overnight stop was in Melrose, at the foot of
Mt.Remarkable where we climbed part way up the mountain
and just caught the tail end of the sunset.

Naturally I kept on shooting as I huffed and puffed ever upward.

Stopping to turn around and enjoy the moon in the blue of
the eastern sky (in case you can't see it, it is the tiny white spot
in the upper middle of the sky)

and trudging on to wonder at the whirling clouds overhead.

To end the day the full drama emerged and we just managed
to stumble down again before it was pitch dark.

All photos enlarge of course.

Thank you to the splendid SkyWatch Team for their tenacity
in keeping this great meme going.

Nature Notes and SkyWatch ~ Moon Magic

Hot, steaming summer night, sleep, that elusive rogue has fled.
I toss and turn, defeated I follow reluctantly into the moonlight
drenching the liquid air with gold.

The night so still, watched over by enchantress moon holds
promise yet of mystery and wonder. Gentle rustling in the bushes,
a possum intent on feasting on my rosebuds.

I listen rapt, waiting for I know not what when in the park a
solitary note, yet unmistakable, breaks forth.
It holds me rooted to the spot, not breathing lest it hide away its
fellows ... when there it is again, now stronger as with cadence sweet
she breaks into her lilting warble - a Nightingale as I live and
breathe!

Perhaps my guardian angel sent me out to hear this wonder of the
night. The world asleep and only i priviledged to hear once more
what I had given up as lost forever. My hungry soul laps up each
as it rises and falls. No sleep for me this night, the unexpected joy
is far too great.

Nightingales are imported birds known to exist in Melbourne, some
500 miles away across dry and burningly hot country. In South
Australia, the driest State in the driest Continent, they have been
unknown until this night unless it was a phantom singing solely for
my delectation.

To you all my dear Bloggy friends I wish a wonderfully healthy and

SkyWatch ~ A Gentle Sunrise

Softly growing light gently paints the morning sky,

softening the colours further as the sun rises.

Meanwhile in the west, the moon only thinks of her nice warm
bed beyond the horizin.
