Watery Wednesday ~ My Cup Runneth over

At last the winter rains have come, although today is the
first day of spring. all our water storage tanks are full to
overflowing, meaning that our water supply for household
needs for both houses is now secure for the next three years
with careful management. The dams are nowhere near full
yet but we are still hoping for some spring rains before the
summer dry sets in again.

MY WORLD ~ Spring Close to Home

Spring has sprung with a vengeance, the whole world seems
a-wash with blossoms and flowering bulbs. The air is scented,
the bees are buzzing and frogs are making a huge racket in the
dams and in the garden.
*

*
Plum blossum burting at the seams . . .
*

*
Cascading Bridal Veil.
*

*
A few weeks ago we still had the last roses,
the roses are pruned now and tritonias have sprung up to
keep the wombat company
*

*
and everywhere, just everywhere the gold of wattles.
Below, the Cootamundra Wattle, Acacia beilliana like sunshine
come down to earth.
*

*
Do you wonder that I am all agog with all this beauty and more
surroundinng me?

TODAY'S FLOWERS ~ Almond Blossom Time

A self-seeded almond tree on the road verge, an escapee
from a long ago almond orchard.
*

*
The old trees are barely hanging on but the seedlings are
taling over with their wild beauty.

*

*
Enlarging brings out the beauty.

It is that time of the week again when flowers bloom around the world.

SkyWatch ~ A Foggy Sunrise

Early winter morning valley fog blankets the landscape.
*
*
As the sun heralds the new day, the fog persists.
Apologies for the power lines, they invade even farms
to cause visual annoyance.
*
*
Slowly the sun gets the upper hand and the fog begins to
dissipate,
*
*
lifting as the effect of the sun makes itself felt.

The Logo lets you fly the skies or join in with your own entry.

Thanks to the great SkyWatch team we can all share and discover a

A little Bit of Fun

Any idea what I am wearing? Is it a wedding dress, a shroud?
A bit too late for the first and just a tad too early for the second.
*

*
Just the latest blanket knitted off our sheep's back for No.2
granddaughter's birthday. She seemed to like it and snuggled
into it on a cold winter's night in her shared art student
accomodation.
One more to go but not this year, next year? Sometime? Who knows,
maybe, maybe not . . . we never know what tomorrow brings.

Watery Wednesday ~ The Mighty Murray Brought Low

The mighty Murray River brought to its knees by drought and
excessive plundering of its water for irrigation and water supplies
to townships hundreds of miles away.
*

*
Barely managing a ripple.
*

*
A lonely seagull surveys the exposed sandbanks.
*

*
You can tell its normal width by the trees on its banks. Now
it is so shallow you can walk across where paddle-steamers
once plied their trade. The lakes further down its course have
dried up and its mouth to the sea has been silted over for
many a year.

MY WORLD ~ Garden Friends

When I step outside, I have friends waiting everywhere . . .
some who sit around
*

*
others flying over head
*

*
some fair weather friends
*

*
and some for stormy weather
*

*
some not so pretty who come out at dusk
*

*
and others who are always there when you need them.
These are but a few of the friends I see every day and who
always keep a smile on my face.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ Welcome Visitor

I am Sam, I visit my granny every day for my deep tissue
massage. No one, but no one massages like my granny. She
takes her time and always has time for ME.
*

*
Of course when she has a camera in her hand I have to rub
against her legs by myself.
*

*
Ahh, at last! Why didn't she think before to just use one hand
to preserve me for posterity?
*

*
Mmmm, that's much better . . .
*

*
I love it when ahe does that
*

*
OK, one mor scratch of the face and then put it away and go
the whole hog, I've been chasing rabbits all night and it was
cold out there.
*

*
NB I have a lovely ancient, black Oriental witches cat but
she very wisely stays indoors when Sam comes to call for
his daily massage. He is all muscle and as the Ozzie saying
goes, built like a triple brick shithouse or in more polite terms,
like a rock.

SkyWatch ~ Sunrise Rainbow

In my three score years and ten I had never seen
a rainbow at sunrise until this one came along.
*
*
The gold of the sunrise still bathes the land as
the rainbow becomes clearer
*
*
and as the effect of the sunrise fades, the colours
strengthen against the rain clouds
*
*
until the full arc spreads across the sky.
*

*
Snapped with my funny little shoe phone.

The sky is free for all to see, for other skies click the Logo.

Nature Notes ~ Signs of Spring

Although the calendar says it is still winter, the garden has
other ideas. We have had some good rains lately though not
yet enough to be sure that the drought has broken. The dams
are still much less than half full.
*

*
The wallflowers give a nice splash of colour and the sugar snap
peas are begining to flower.
*

*
Likewise the broad beans. The tip growths of both peas and
beans are delicious in salads.
*

*
The very last rose, just a single bloom, on '4th of July'
*

*
and the first blossoms on the almond tree
*

*
and most importantly, the first three eggs of our beautiful
top knot grey goose . . . just delicious.

*
The duck and chickens think it is still too cold to share their
bounty with us.
*

more seasonal observations.

Watery Wednesday ~ Tropical waters

From our trip a while ago to tropical Queensland,
just remembering the warmth and the sunshine on
this cold, wet, blustery winter's day.

*
The lilacy pink of a profusion of waterlilies
*

*
and a patient juvenile Heron for contrast, fishing in just a
trickle of the river after a severe flood when it ran 20'deep.

*
All photos enlarge but the last one really needs it to see the clarity
of the running rater.

MY WORLD ~ Eyre Peninsula Coast

When our souls are in need of a rest cure, we often head to the
Eyre Peninsola in South Australia.
There are miles and miles of unending, pristine beaches and
the constant boom of crashing rollers roaring in to assault the
land. Not another human being in sight.
A perfect paradise for a loner like me to be rejuvenared by
the buffeting winds and the salt sea air.
*

*
The tonal range of blue the sea offers to my hungry eyes
sinks deep within my being
*

*
making me skip and dance on the soft white sand
*

*
to the rhytm of the ever pounding waves.
*

*
A glimpse of coastal vegetation
*

*
and a Pacific gull threatening to shower me with a rich, nourishing
blessing better suited to my garden.
*

*
The sea scapes are worth enlarging if you appreciate the colour 'blue'
or are addicted to water.
*
Thanks to the MY WORLD Team, we can all hold hands across the oceans.
