World Bird Wednesday - Adelaide Rosella

The cabin in Melrose, which we had pre-booked sight unseen,
was unprepossessing for the price to say the least, see post below,
but sported a pair of Adelaide rosellas, Platycercus elegans
adelaidae, feeding on the uncut grass at the back.

They let me come reasonably close unlike the same species
on our farm where they fly away before you know they are there.

Here they performed acrobatic feats on the wire fence just
to show off,

and even sat for a family portrait!

  2. Beautiful! I'm sure they have to charge extra for the cabin just because of the entertainment.

  11. Arija, I loved your post about your trip up north to Melrose. The landscape looks so similar to ours in South Africa. I also love these Rosella's - so colourful and posing beautifully for you. Thanks for your comment on my Kenyan Cats post today. We ALSO have a cat for each day of the week. We have four cats back home in South Africa and three here in Kenya! Have a great day. Jo
