Wild Bird Wednesday & Nature Notes - European Goldfinch

This little fellow serenaded me from his perch on my TV
aerial all spring long.

My bedroom is directly below and he
did a great job singing me to sleep for my post-prandial nap.

At first he would take off as soon as I lifted my camera

but soon came back again.

I'll post some better pictures and continue this little tale when
my iPhoto can be unfrozen so I can shift them to Photoshop,
it is  such a bother at the moment.
I have no Idea why it is being so obstreperous.

  1. I do love your colorful little bird! Delightful captures for the day, Arija! Things are really messed up blog wise and I can't do much of anything but try to stay in touch! Hope all is well with you!!

  2. Not one speck of red on our Pacific Northwest goldfinches. Mind you, this dapper fellow makes up for that completely ... oh, so handsome!

  3. Stunning little bird. It is wattlebirds who wake me - before sparrow fart.

  4. What a beautiful bird you have to serenade you! I had to go to xenocanto to hear its song. Wonderful!

  9. What pleasure it is to hear these little songstresses when you wake in the morning--or nap! Very dramatic markings on head--and I love that last pose. Appreciate your frustration with getting good shots. There's several in my yard that are camera shy!

  10. he's a beauty! i bet he sings beautifully, too.

those grackles landed underneath the bird feeder tree so were eating all the spilled seed from the bird feeders - very quickly, too. :)

  19. I'm sure obstreporous technology is responsible for many of the ills of the world ... but happily, they can be counterracted by a little bird watching from time to time!!

  20. Hello Arija,
Thanks for your kind visit to my blog!
I am glad you live in Australia since it is the place we are looking forward to live in: our son lives with his family in the Blue Mountains!
I didn't know you had Goldfinches there too, I haven't seen them when I was there!
    Cheers!
