Sorry I'm late. Some things are going on in my life at the
moment which make it hard to get up a post, let alone visit.
These little guys are a little bigger than Budgerigars and a
smaller than our Galahs. I snapped them at dawn in really
bad light and had to soup them up a little.
I tried really hard to get a decent shot of the red rump.
Here is a pair of them. It is quite a sight to see them in the air,
they are very fast flyers and all you see is the bright, almost
iridescent green and a flash of red as they pass by.
This is the best I could get of the red rump which is much
more visible when they lift their wings.
There were at least twenty in the flock but as soon as there
was enough light to photograph, they did the disappearing trick.
Photos enlarge if you wish and please leave me a comment it
you can, they make it easier to get through the day.
Thank you Springman for this enlightening meme.
Nice photos, these birds are not usual here
ReplyDeleteThey certainly are beauties and I'll bet really amazing to see in flight.
ReplyDeleteHope things get better at home for you real soon.
Oh, beautiful! I want to take a close look at male birds with shining feathers in rainbow colors and see them flying in the air. How gentle their eyes are!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
keiko
Arija, looking at these parrots in your yard is like looking at a pet store to me! They are so exotic and beautiful! I cannot imagine seeing them as "yard birds!"
ReplyDeleteI hope and pray things turn around for you today. Sending big birdy hugs from Massachusetts. (Can you feel my wings around you?)
You nailed the rump in the end, certainly no mistaking the red :)
ReplyDeleteGreat looking birds.
Such beautiful, colorful birds! Terrific captures as always, Arija! I do hope your week is going well -- I know how difficult things are and I am holding good and loving thoughts for you and your family! Take care!

ReplyDeleteTake care..
Do not worry about visiting back Arija -- I (and I'm sure all your readers) are just grateful to be able to look at your wonderful posts. The birds are wonderful and I've said this so often that I'm sure people are sick of it, but I can't get over that those exotic (to me) birds are just normal everyday birds!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely little bird and the red rump is beautiful. Too bad we don't have that one up this way.
ReplyDeletewell captured, we have them here also at times and i concur they are difficult to encourage to pose.

Parrots, eh?
Nothing like that here or in Germany.
How beautiful they are! The male is like some kind of Jewel :)

( I have changed my blogspot address and even my nickname, which is my oldest blogging nickname "Mimmu".
Welcome to my new sites!
Such lovely birds--and they are just flying around your yard ??? I can only see parrots at a pet store or in the zoo. Such a treat to have them right outside your door. Have a lovely weekend. Mickie :)
ReplyDeleteHi there - these are great little parrots! I like them a lot. Makes me wonder if they were being named today if they would be called "Golf Course Parrots" or "Sports Oval Parrots" – that’s where I see them most often!
ReplyDeleteI have a recommendation for a place to stay on the Great Ocean Road if you are interested.
Cheers SM
Look at those colours! What a sight! Just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWow, I've never seen these before. What a delight for you.
