After two nice station-hands repaired one of our tyres, we were
off north, crossing scores of creek beds with rough and tumble
stones and doing our best not to tread on the feet of magnificent
River Redgums.
The only road, a hundred plus many miles of rough as guts dirt
roads, creek crossings and floodways was east of the ranges with
tantalising glimpses of the hills and huge, wide open skies.
An occasional glimpse of a flower as we got into the foothills.
The countryside had a lush cover of vegetation so unlike the normal
look of these dry ranges.
A young camel was quite a surprise to see, just a a teenager taking
a rest in the afternoon heat
and here is the next generation, with mom and dad being very
protective and sending junior to hide over the crest and behind them.
At last, Griselda hill at Arkaroola where I hope to get to see and
photograph some birds of the region.
We checked in, booked a table for dinner and . . . discovered we had
another flat tyre!
Sequel to follow . . .
love the color in that last shot!

ReplyDeleteRotten luck but a great sequence!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteOh no. Get those tires repaired so you can enjoy your stay.
ReplyDeleteArija, lovely photos from your road trip. The camels are neat, especially the young one. What luck to have two flat tires on one trip. Thanks for sharing your world. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGreat adventure....I can only imagine seeing camels just out there like that. I'd be so excited. Sorry 'bout the flat tires, but since you're writing about it, it sounds like you made it out OK ;>)!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the flat tires--always a "hassle" to get them fixed. What a great journey you are taking--lovely photos. Mickie :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful colours in this rugged landscape ... I had to laugh at your expression rough-as-guts dirt roads! it's something I heard often mentioned by my Dad when having to traverse the many country roads on the west coast of S.A.

ReplyDeleteAmazing wildflowers and views.
Camels in Australia. I never knew that.
ReplyDeleteThat road must have been really tough on your vehicle.
Love your stories Arija.
Letter coming soon...♥
This is such an amazing series of posts. Mega thanks.
ReplyDeleteHow I remember juddering across corrugations in long dry, never graded, dirt roads. The flower and the camels would be amazing rewards though.
Beautiful countryside and I love the camel sighting! I can empathize with those rough roads as there are some as rough here in Alaska that you definitely need to have spare tires along.
ReplyDeleteIn response to your question, I processed all the photos in Photoshop Elements 10, and for the 3rd photo I applied the Accented Edges effect and upped the contrast and brightness.
Not too surprised about flat tires over that beautiful and rugged terrain. I sure didn't expect to see camels either.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like it is some serious road trip!
ReplyDeleteFlats can take the fun out of any day!

ReplyDeleteOh the places your eyes have seen and heart felt!!! Amazing. Look at those knotted roots!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't think of camels when I think of Australia, but there they are! Glad you got to your destination before you had to fix another tire!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
The young camel is a handsome dude!
ReplyDeleteThe trees--those root systems amaze me. Thanks for the ride!
There's this known saying, when it rains it pours. :D hope everything went well after the flat tires. Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics!
ReplyDeleteWhat a journey and it looks like your found your birds (enjoyed that post, too -- so colorful). I heard just recently about the camels in Australia -- cute little guy, but I guess they are bad for the environment. Sorry about the flat tires ... all part of the adventure!
ReplyDeleteWhat's a road trip without a flat tire or two? Feel fortunate you weren't stranded out there in the wilderness, with camels for companions. LOL! Terrific photos.
ReplyDeleteMy, you ARE on an adventure! Where are you headed to?
