Autumn at the Ovens River at Porepunka, Victoria
For best viewing, all photos can be enlarged.
A tiny Silvereye, Zosterops lateralis, thinking
about his morning ablutions in the cold river water.
and enjoying the unshine while it still lasts.
A common House Sparrow below posing on an autumn
tinted Birch twig
and a bridge over untroubled water, although rather
treacherously slippery and troublesome in itself, that
leads nowhere in particular, just making access through
the bush a little easier to the river further up stream.
The above photos were all taken on one of our autumn
interstate holidays.

Those are beautiful pictures, especially the first one. So odd to think of autumn when our weather is so hot....the world is a wide and wondrous place.
ReplyDeleteWe have the little silvery eyes over here in NZ too, such happy little birds presently all chirping merrily as they eat all the red berries from the bushes around here.
ReplyDeleteLovely pics of a delightful walk by the creek.
Beautiful birds, especially silvereye!
ReplyDeleteAh, fall, a time of changes. Really like the bridge over untroubled waters. A place I'd like to walk.
ReplyDeleteLove them all! The captions are as captivating as the pictures themselves. The beautiful house sparrow is so tamed. I wish I can get a closer shot like that.
ReplyDeleteAre you a bird whisperer Ma'am? :)
That first photo of the pond and the reflections is just beautiful! and of course I love the little Silvereye.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was working in New Zealand 10 years ago I had a Silvereye, crashing into a window so I could hold it in my hand before it could fly away again!

ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
I don't blame the Silvereye for hesitating before taking the plunge into chilly water! Nothing like a cold shower in the morning - eek!

ReplyDeletePretty pretty pictures. I hate to think about Autumn here though. We've barely gotten into summer, and it's been so wet.

Your profile reads like mine could look like :D
Yes, Arija I remember that passage in the book. I also remember sitting at my grandmother's veranda in the north of Portugal, looking at the mountains, and listening to grandma tell me of the women she knew, women that worked the fields almost to the last day of their pregnancy, women like one of my grandmother's neighbors who went to gather wood one day, gave birth on the fields, and came home with a baby bundle in her arms and a pile of wood on top of her head. You do become a sisterhood listening and witnessing such courage.
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely photos and as the song goes, my eye is on the sparrow!
ReplyDeleteyour colors are so strikingly vivid! Amazing!
ReplyDeleteLove that golden willow.
