Historically Lincoln and leicester lustre longwool was used for
wig making and worsted outer wear. It is remarkably water
and dirt resistant as well as having a lovely sheen.
On top of all that, they are great and caring mothers the one
below even had triplets.
These are not at all like our blue-faced Leicesters Arija - they are quite ugly, whereas yours a pretty. I originally come from Lincolnshire so I grew up with Lincoln Longwools, I think they are almost a rare breed now.
ReplyDeleteRe your comment on my 'poem' of course I am not hurt - I welcome any kind of comment or criticism - that is what I post things for. Please go to the comments page on my blog to read my full answer - I mostly agree with what you say.
Best wishes. Love those little lambs - none due here for another six weeks or so.
That second photographs speaks to me. Just look at that wool! Amazing how these animals have lived through centuries for the benefit of humankind.
ReplyDeleteHow are you my dearest. I am delighted to see you up and about in the blogs.
I adore sheep, and your pictures are wonderful. How sweet these dear little lambs are. Thank you for sharing.

ReplyDeleteShalom Arija.
ReplyDeleteI used to take care of Katahdin hair sheep, so it is nice to see your very beautiful wool sheep.
Triplets, wow!
You tell of wigs in the old days. Today was the Red Mass at St. Mary's in Sydney. That is where I first saw lawyers wearing red robes and white wigs. Quite a sight!
I do hope you are feeling better, Arija. Love this look at your world, such wonderful sheep and interesting to learn more about them. Love the shot of the triplets!! Have a lovely week, take good care of yourself!

Beautiful and I find it interesting that they are such great Mothers.. People wouldn't think that. I am sorry you are not well and I do hope it is just the heat dear Arija. My Mother hasn't spoken me since she left the rehab facility in June because I told her doctors that she drinks....
ReplyDeleteThese are cool-looking sheep. I haven't seen them in California, except maybe at a state fair. I can see that their wool would make some nice warm wigs.
