MY WORLD ~ Temperate Rainforest

Let me take you to a place I really love, the
temperate rainforest of Victoria, where the
trees are tall, the rivers flow and the air smells
sweet at this time of year.

Although most of the area has been prey to major bushfires
throughout the years and the giants of the forest that used to
rival the redwoods of California are gone now, there is still
magic in these mountains.

When the understory Pittosporums spread their scent and
feed butterflies on ambrosia, you know it is springtime.

I love the trees being too tall for my camera lens and needing
to crane one's neck seriously to see to their heads in the clouds.
The scars of the last fire are still clearly visible, yet the forest in
its majesty is no less impressive than before.

Show us what touches your heart in OUR WORLD, the more, the merrier!

  14. Nature has a way of pushing forward despite fires and other disasters. The tall trees are regal, indeed, as is the tiny little butterfly feeding by the elegant buds. :)

  21. Ah -- the beautiful Pacific Northwest (that's where I am now too!... but not out in the forest).

This was a lovely post; as a fairly new reader of your beautiful blog I hadn't realized you'd visited Canada.

  22. Wow! I find it so difficult to take shots of tall trees, but you hit the nail right on the spot. Great angle.

I think I would frame that shot on the lake, thanks for the input.

  24. Hi there - looks like where I was this week. I do love these forests.

I would except that "haste does not always lead to speed" if I had been speeding. I'm just glad it was a soft bush!

    Cheers SM

  26. Hello Arija
Living where I do I know what those tall trees look like - Magnificent. The ones 'attacked' during the Black Saturday Fires are coming back into their own now.
Thank you for naming the water bird for me - I was wrong:(
It sort of looked like what I suggested but after looking it up and at the other shots I took, it looks nothing like the Common Greenshank and is as you said A White Faced Heron
    Take care

  44. Lush undergrowth always seems to spring back better than ever after one of those disastrous fires, nature is wonderful. The ferns are beautiful and the flowers and butterfly.

I think the Sun decided to stay 'down under' today, it has been dark and miserable here all day.

  45. Absolutely incredible, the photo with the ferns almost looks prehistoric. Great shots.

  47. Arija,
I ‘m sorry to hear the last fire has left the scars to this magnificent forest. The huge tree in your first photo is almost divine. In Japan, the deities are believed to reside in nature, especially such a great tree. Beautiful!
    Best wishes,
