Heading north for the desert floriade lots of little flowers showed
their pretty faces as soon as we reached the southern Flinder's
Ranges. A sprig of blue near Hawker,
and the first of the tiny, 6"high, Statice in the palest of blue
against the red desert soil.
There I was, about to be erudite and tell you all the botanical
names and the great big tome on native plants I just bought
turned out to be a dud!
This one I know without a book, Solanum petrophilum.
This is one I know all too well since it is a common weed on
our farm and is the flower in my header, Echium plantagenium.
The really exciting flowers will start next week.
All photos enlarge as usual.
Our trip to the drylands in a wet season was amazing in many
ways among the high points were the flowers.
Thanks to TODAY'S FLOWERS we can all share our floral experiences.

These flowers are different from the ones you see in north Queensland, but also very beautiful! Thanks for sharing, Arija! have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt does look like spring and I have to admit I'm a bit envious -- it is definitely autumn in Seattle!! Lots of color, but not the same kind! Hope your week is off to a great start, Arija! Enjoy!

The blues are lovely! The solanum species are so pretty! I have a solanum on my post too! That sounded like a great trip. With flowers, can anything go wrong?;)
ReplyDeleteArija, I swear, you must have the most extensive collection of flora in Australia! I am amazed at the extensive record you have kept. Your blog is a compendium of Australia's flora treasures, plus cloud formations, plus fauna! Have a great week!

Lovely photos of lovely flowers!
ReplyDeleteArija, I must tell you that I am having the biggest, most enjoyable chuckle while reading your post for you see, over here on this continent we horti-nuts pay the highest prices you can imagine in order to have some of YOUR native blooms in our gardens. You say your header is the *weed* Echium plantagenium??? geesh. I know of a mail order nursery two states down from me that charges $5 American dollars for *one plant* of this spritely annual...well, I'd say you have about $5 million dollar's worth there in that photo!! HA! You are an Echi-millionairess!!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are fully recovered and can go traveling.
ReplyDeleteArija, I so enjoyed catching up with your most recent posts, thank you from the bottom of my heart!
ReplyDeleteBig hug,
Merisi
