My mind seems to be a blank and my camera has been very lazy
as well so I am regressing a little in time and returning to a happy
snappy time in the drylands around the Flinders Ranges.
Early morning at Wirrealpa Station and the birds were coming
for a dip in the big water tank near our little cottage.
Here is the little hen Variegated Fairy-Wren, Malurus lamberti,
and just that you don't think she was an easy shot, below is the
uncropped version of the little grey dot in the middle.
Here is her colourful little mate, not yet in full mating plumage
but looking rather dapper none the less.

ReplyDeleteHe is certainly an attractive catch. Hope your day has some ray of sunshine in it.
ReplyDeleteI remember when I was first introduced to the variegated wren, in a painting. I thought it was the neatest little bird and now I have seen photos of them in the wild thanks to these lovely photos. Thanks Arija.

ReplyDelete...dearie me, have I EVER seen a little tweeter as adorable as this one?!?! Thank you for sharing these wonderful creatures.
ReplyDeleteWow those males are really really really a lot more colorful than the mama! I know this happens often but the difference seems even more pronounced with these little charmers..
ReplyDeleteI'm in a happy snappy time right now (love that description) and I can only hope that I get some pictures half as good as what you find in your archives for when I'm in the next blank lazy camera phrase.
Great photos of the Fairy Wrens. I just wish they would sit still for longer!
ReplyDeleteWow! Magnificent photos of such an endearing bird ~~ thanks, ^_^ ( A Creative Harbor)

ReplyDeleteI am always surprised when a rather dull looking female has such a brilliant colored mate. Nice shots.
ReplyDeleteHi Arija,
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful feathers he has! it seems to be fluorescence. What clothes does he wear for the mating season, I wonder?

ReplyDeleteCute birds..I though of you today as I was out being thankful that I can water my plants and leave water for the wildlife as it is so hot and dry. I hope things are OK..or as good as it gets for you now..big hugs...Michelle
ReplyDeleteAmazing colours.
ReplyDeleteWhat splendid little creatures, and the plumage on the male, wow, if that is not full dress, I cannot wait to see him in his full attire. I had my surgery yesterday and trying to get caught up, while I try to rest. Hugs my dear friend~
ReplyDeleteI thought I’d let you know that I stepped into the void caused by Springmans decision to close down World Bird Wednesday by setting up Wild Bird Wednesday (!) on my photoblog at Paying Ready Attention – Photo Gallery.

ReplyDeleteArija, what sweet little birds! I hope you are well. I just thought you might like to know that Gus and I are moving back to Tucson, AZ. Also, I use a new email address that is posted in my sidebar on my blog. Sending hugs. I miss you!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty and dainty little birds!
ReplyDeleteI love these bird meme's ... I keep seeing birds I have never seen or heard of before. Your little wrens are adorable. We have only House Wrens here and they, too, are adorable and have a marvelous song, but they are drab colorwise. Thank you for your post ... I would never think it was an easy shot. Good for you!

ReplyDeleteWhat a gem, this little bird. Great pics as always. Hope you are coping with the joint pain OK. If that is what woke you up so early for the post with the dawn photo, at least some good comes of it. Take care.
