In the Victorian alpine rainforest I saw a pair of Satin
Bowerbirds, Chlamydera violaceus, while the female was
gorging herself on Persimmons,
he fed well in the depths of the tree and in the tree below, I only
got a glimpse of him with his back turned. I saw two more
while we were there but always high up and far away or hidden
inside the leafy protection of a tree. The male is black with a
purple sheen, he collects blue and yellow objects in his bower
where he displays for his lady.

Oh Arija, your photo of the Satin Bowerbird female is spectacular. I love her barred front and green back and undertail. Hope you're having a wonderful day. Blessings and (((hugs))) Jo
ReplyDeleteAnother great bird sighting, even if they weren't very cooperative.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, Arija, the name made me imagine an exotic, highly coloured bird and then when I saw it it is just an ordinary brown.
ReplyDeletethe female is just stunning!

PS: Ben's... hmmm. long gone. Do you remember all the photos posted on the walls? and the waiters with attitude?
Beautiful picture of the female. Those darn males were camera shy. Leafed out trees make getting pictures difficult.
