FLORAL FRIDAY, TODAY'S FLOWERS & Nature Notes - Bottle Brush

An emergency session with the dentist on Friday
made me a present as solace for loosing a tooth
of this cascade of Callistemons
overhanging the steps as I left to rescue
my waiting dog in the car

walking under this gleaming red canopy
was a delight indeed.

Wild Bird Wednesday & Nature Notes - On a Cold and Foggy Morning . . .

A cold and foggy morning
comforting to look out at from a warm and cosy bed

but not so nice for little birds with clammy feathers
their shoulders hunched up
seeking the first rays of the thin yet
warming winter sun

as I was giving my dog his morning brushing massage,
a flock of about 10-12 welcome swallows,
Hirunda neoxena,
flew in and spread themselves on my pergola
some eight feet from us

they were there again the next morning as I
left my room to groom the dog
they even let me walk to the front of the pergola

to photograph them in better light
just quietly meditating with the rising sun . . .

So comforting to have the birds come and companion sit.

OUR WORLD - A Walk in the Woods

A gloomy, rainy afternoon
but oh such a wonderful walk
in a rain drenched forest.

If you look closely, you can glimpse a kangaroo next to
the second tree on the right.

Sorry, I could not help slipping this in with the Brownies
and their leader.

Lichen on a tree like mint sugar candy.

This stone obviously was not rolling, everything was so
vibrantly green and wet . . .

Nature's basket weaving

moss on moss, I found this rather interesting,
a marriage of two different mosses.

What princess was this that was turned into a tree with
her braided tresses trailing on the forest floor

rain: between shots the camera tucked inside my jacket

in every family, there is one with his head above the others

fascinating rocks, singly and in mounds

half the trees have been felled so there is much more light
in the forest and the forest floor is much greener than before.

My friend and companion contemplating the little green pool
that in summer is totally covered in duck weed.

Not the forests of oak, birch and fir of my childhood but a
place of trees none the less
and I always feel at home amongst trees.

An hour of walking and listening here, smelling the wet pine needles,
is bound to restore the soul and lift the spirits.

MY WORLD ~ 32 A Year of Blogging

Click to enlarge, they all like showing off!

To all the bloggers who come to call, I give you Roses!

Mr. and Mrs. Superb Blue Wren in my garden.

One year and 204 posts ago today my daughter pushed
me into the deep end of blogland. I coughed and spluttered
until I found my feet. Somehow my kite startd flying high
after I grasped the basics of enjoying my computer.

I am grateful for all the encouragement I have received
from my fellow bloggers, but more than that, for your
growing friendship during my learning curve.

Your expressions of sympathy and kind and caring thoughts
have helped me bear my recent loss. To all of you who cared,
a big, big hug and thank you.

Our cattle survived the drought although the calves
were tiny.

Blogging made me want to learn the basics on the computer.
Before, I only used it as a tool to do our rather complex
farm tax on, now I am enjoying it.

Blogging has given my photography extra purpose as I
photograph for particular memes, and learn to adjust light
and the shortcomings of my telephoto lens.

I have barely had time to scratch myself this year, so I
engaged Kip my Border Collie grand-dog to do it for me.

Blogging has re-awakened my writing from its hundred
year sleep, and even got me painting again.

An old Gumtree on the farm that I love very much.

Above all, I have met all you wonderful people I now call
friends, and am privilged to be invited to your homes for
an on-line cup of tea, a glass of wine or even a gala ball.

Sunrise on the farm in South Australia.

Through this means of communication the world has
shrunk and engendered much better communication
between individuals at least.
We are all born, live, love, work and die, no matter
what nation or belief system we prefer to belong to.

So let us love each other and the world we live in and
thus make it a bettter place for those who come after us.

The wonderful blue of Forget-me-nots.

To Klaus and the MY WORLD/SkyWatch team a big
thank you for all the help I have had from you this year.

Here though is a promising sign of the changing
seasons, the tiny Blue Wrens are back. This little
hen bird I heard fluting outside and rushed for
my camera. The rosebush is dead, but the bird
is wonderfully alive
