Along the Darling river
deep in its weary bed
the goats were dancing under trees
as busily as buzzing bees
high upon their tippy toes
stripping leaf and twig of those
trees still green upon the bank
Greedy for the other's leaf
they rolled their eyes in disbelief
and glancing blows with horn and head
fought for the right to be first fed
We hapless humans munching lunch
enjoyed the sight while they
with honour satisfied
went on their merry way.
These little flowers gave us cheer
though bumpy was our road and drear
until from sealed road once again
spied Warrumbungles far away
but those await another day!

ReplyDeleteHallo Arija,
Hartmut
