BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY WEEKLY ~ 3

I have tried to capture this White-faced
Heron Ardea novaehollandiae for months
and had almost given up on getting lucky
the more rapidly the water in the pond
evaporated. Whenever we coincided there
he always spotted me first and took off.
I got lucky at noon one day this week, and
although he sensed someone coming, he only
flew across the pond

When he heard the click of my camera, he took
off. Sorry about the quality of this, I'm not too
good at tracking yet

but did get in this graceful stealth bomber
taking to the skies. The darker flight feathers
and white face proclaimed his identity.

  1. Herons are a challenge to photograph in our area too, I got lucky the other day with my photos, they're usually not that cooperative.

  2. Great photos. I especially like the last one. We have a lot of Great Blue Heron's in this area.

  3. Lovely! You know, there has been some kind of heron hanging around our tall pine trees. I've seen him flying from them three times this week with his long legs stretched out behind him.

  5. I think you did good and it's great you were able to catch it in flight. :-) Very nice!

  6. Arija I love the photographs. There is an instant quality to them that is refreshing. Lucky you to have such exotic birds near at hand to photograph; I have been trying to snap a pheasant for the past week. He eats at our bird table and watches me. As soon as I point the camera he flies off!

  9. Looks like our great blue heron here in the states. I was going to enter Bird Photography, but I wasn't happy with the kingfisher I got...

  10. Lovely photos. I find these birds hard to approach also and the only time I got really close was at a riverside caravan park with people everywhere! The bird must have become use to all the people!
