This year it was the sesquicentennial of our local
Agricultural Show
one of the oldest continuous shows in the state.
Being a patron, I had to go along, if only to watch my
grandson-in-law win not only the intermediate section speed
shearing but also - would you believe it - the best butt on the board.
At the end of the shearing, all the competitors had to line up and
bend over and he got the vote of the audience.
Just starting off
oops, the last two pictures the computer reversed in order,
Lord knows why
so this is the last cut or two of one of seven sheep to be shorn
and here we are with a lovely white back and the legs being cleaned up.
It seems I was rather biased, I took no other photos of grand parades
or hall exhibits.
The weather was blustery with Scotch mist drifting through and
it got a bit cold for me to hang around any longer.

Glad you captured this interesting scene! :-)
ReplyDeleteReminds me of home, my parents used to have sheep. I don't remember any being as white as the one in your pictures!
Hugs,
Merisi
Friends of mine visited New Zealand a couple of years ago and went to a sheep shearing competition there. They were absolutely amazed by the speed and skill of the participants.

Gosh Arija, that word was hard to say!
ReplyDeleteI love agricultural shows - our local one is just at the end of our Lane on the last Saturday in September, and of course we go every year and thoroughly enjoy it. It somehow signals the end of the summer.
best butt! ha ha! :) congrats to him!
ReplyDeleteI love the "best butt" award!! Great captures for the day, Arija! Thanks for the smiles/giggles!! Hope you have a wonderful week!!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting our world, Arija!
ReplyDeleteLove it...
Warm greetings from Holland,
Anna
I can understand that you were proud of your grandson-in-law! Have a great sesquicentennial(difficult word)!
ReplyDeleteBest butt baa-aaa none!
ReplyDeleteOf course you are biased, and why not. And what a wonderful duo of prizes to win. Which is he most proud of? Have a wonderful, wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your grandson. The sheering contest looks like a fun event, along with the Butt contest. So funny! Thanks for sharing, have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteWow! There are prizes for that!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots.
Congrats to your grandson... for all his awards. Funny!
ReplyDeleteFascinating!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the young man on both of this awards.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful for your grandson, and that is quite a feat, I am sure. I have only seen sheep sheared once and it was quite interesting. Sheep are some of my faves in animals and I think at times that I would love to own one and then...I think again...maybe not~ Love and hugs~
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that must have been fun to watch!!! I hope you are well, dearest Arija. I have not been using my camera or cameras. I gave away my SLR to my daughter. I don't even take photos of clouds anymore. :( Maybe someday I will find delight in them once more. Tsup!
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to get out and enjoy.. Michelle
