TODAY'S FLOWERS ~ Tropical Waterlilies

Ah, Queensland, beautiful one day, perfect the next!

In the North of Australia where the rainy season is in the
summertime, glorious waterlilies dot the wetlands wherever
the waterdepth is right for them. Their colours range from white
through pinks and mauves to this lovely blue.

This Wetland is choked by imported forage grasses that have
gone feral and now threaten both native bird and plant habitat.
They are the reason that this wetland is not awash with waterlilies,
and reeds for birds to nest in.

Another close up of these beauties.

MY WORLD ~ 22 Yeppoon, the Way Back I

Please do enlarge them, it is well worth it.

One more shot from the wetlands at Yeppoon,
Ibis practising synchronised flying.

A daytrip to the Rockhampton Botanical Gardens

Red Dragonfly resting by the Waterlily pond in
the Japanese garden.

Tropical trees are not my speciality, it had no label
but was tall and wide and covered in vermillion
flowers and cheeky Noisy Miner birds.

The Egret rookery, one did have to watch out
from above.

The youngsters were just hangin' round, being bored

what is there to do except scratch yourself?

Hey, something is happening, is that mother ?

False alarm, just an Ibis flapping by!

There she is..Hey mom, down here! Shucks, she
flew right by...

Birds of another feather, a domestic Goose hanging
round with an Ibis and being spied on by a Moor Hen

Some boats high and dry as we said farewell to the
Bat colony on leaving Yeppoon and aiming our car
towards Carnarvon Gorge. Next week if you are patient,
the next exciting episode, a walk in the gorge.

MY WORLD ~ 8 The Road Home

Our return from the mountains, a stretch
of 1,000km+, lead us through Melbourne
the capital of Victoria where we stayed with
my sister. From there the long 700km stretch
home.I can no longer travel the distance in one
day, so we like to spand a night in Horsham.
Horsham is a very well-to-do town in the western
wheat belt of Victoria. For us it boasts a number
of attractions, a Motel with a comfortable Q'sized
bed right next door to one of our favourite eateries,
Toys Chinese Restaurant. There is also a garden
ornament shop where the Prof. has been known to
splurge in a very big way.

Leon Toy is a remakable person. Sixth generation
Australian Chinese, the family still speak their
language. Apart from having built up this beautiful
restaurant, Leon had a grand vision and has established
a Chinese garden wonderful to see. Many water features
filled with Lilies and Fish and spanned by bridges, a
mini-golf course tucked away in greenery and to top it all
a beautiful version of the great wall of China to enclose it.

Come and see for yourselves.

wall on the left

Some magnificent Waterlilies which are there
in a abundance

part of the eating area where the food that Leon
cooks is always delicious, the service friendly and
everything spotlessly clean

the place is decorated with art treasures. these
are two of the clay warriors shipped from China
for an exhibition.

Detail of an exquisite screen inlaid with mother
of pearl.

To finish, another view of one of the ponds.
