Our World & World Bird Wednesday - More of Moonta Bay

What's happening in our world? Today I had a lazy day recovering
from yesterday's overdoing it a bit. I tackled the meadow in our
front garden with a line trimmer (petrol driven) and got a small
patch done to differentiate the cut grass from the overgrown flower
beds. Quite an achievement at my age!

Now, let me take you back to our recent trip to Moonta Bay, one
of my favourite fishing spots for fish, crabs, photos . . .

A Sooty Oystercatcher looking for his breakfast at sunrise

as the morning light turns the water into molten silver

and an Australian Pied Oystercatcher, Haematopus longirostris,
is also intent on a spot of brekkie.

Not easy to concentrate on the job when you are buffeted by
a stiff breeze . . .

perhaps a good time to take to wing and find a calmer place.

Meanwhile, the Pied Cormorant, Phalacrocoras varius, is
already drying his feathers

and indulging in a spot of preening.

Look left from the jetty towards the sun and the sea is a
silvery gray,

look right and the beauty of the early light and the cleansing
breeze is almost overwhelming,

What are you seeing in this wonderful world of ours?

OUR WORLD - Moonta Bay

Our first day was cloudy

but the next morning was bright and perfect for trying out my
new 500mm lens from our balcony. This is the jetty at Port
Hughes, a good 5 miles away.

People walking happy dogs down to the beach for a swim

and the occasional cormorant sitting on the breakwater.

Then the light changed to a lurid yellowish green and

a massive storm blew up with torrential rain , flashing lightning
all across the sky and almost interminable rumble of thunder.
The rain was so thick, you could hardly see the sea.

It left the world newly washed with instant little lakes in every
man made depression to increase the uptake of water for the
support of the struggling coastal vegetation.

As soon as the storm had passes (a few marvellous hours),
the sun peeped out from the clouds and the sea was calm and
perfect for a good evening's fishing and crabbing.

Needless to say, under such circumstances and long walks
along the beach and jetty, I returned wonderfully refreshed.

On Wednesday we are off for our next adventure to the Riverland.
Again I will be out of reach of the internet but would so appreciate any
comments you care to leave.

Have you put up your OUR WORLD post yet? If not, get your skates on!

OUR WORLD - The Call of the Blue Yonder . . .

Ah . . . the irresistible call of the blue yonder . . .

We're off within a few hours to seek solace by the blue sea

where the jetty invites you to be 'gone fishin' . . .

the water is clear,

the sunrise casts shadows in the sand,

the sunsets are to die for

and freshly caught 'fruit de mere' mouthwateringly sweet.

I'll be back at the end of the week . . . maybe . . .

That is OUR WORLD, what is yours???

SkyWatch ~ Sunset, Moonrise, Moonset

Still remembering our wonderful 38 hour holiday in Moonta
Bay and this red sunset over the sea.

The fishing improved as the moon rose.

I awoke at 4a.m. to the full moon preparing for bed.

Needless to say, I was out of my bed and up two flights of
stairs, grabbed my camera and in my best birthday suit
(perish the thought), sprinkled with stardust and moon
glow and out on the balcony in a flash. If a stray dolphin
saw me, good luck to him!

This is the actual moonset with very little light and no tripod,
it is a little fuzzy just as I was with all this excitement.

Click to enlarge and sink into the sea . . .

With thanks to the Marvellous SkyWatch Team who have
hosted this meme continuously for years.

MY WORLD & World Bird Wednesday - Gone Fishing

I hope you all can forgive me for not getting around to all
your blogs. Things are somewhat stressful here now, and
for quite some time to come. I do hope you will still leave
me your comments, they help me get through each day and
I appreciate them very much indeed.

At present, like this pelican, Pelicanus conspicillatus "Ah's
gone fishin'.... Just to Moonta Bay for a couple of days for
some much needed R&R. Naturally my camera and paints
are also making the journey.

Oops, a slight adjustment to flaps and the landing should be
a safe if not an elegant one.

Like the pelican I am hoping to catch enough fish to feed us.
Be prepared for some tall and maybe true stories to come . . .

I shall be out of range while away, so stay safe, well and happy
meanwhile.

As always, all photos enlarge.
