TODAY'S FLOWERS ~ Dusk in the Garden

Dusk falls gently in my garden after a long day of judging
children's pets at our local agricultural show. I am very tired
but happy remembering the children's glowing faces as the
deserving were presentd with their sashes.

Now I can appreciate the peace and quiet beauty of the last light
on my roses drifting scent from every direction.

Above, a massed bed of pink with just one red rose among them.

All photos enlarge with a click.

The beautiful 'Heritage', one of David Austin's roses that I
absolutely love.

Below, a close up with a few dew drops shining on the petals.

The mystery hour, the blue hour, the light fades while the
flowers glow like fairy lights until you hear the merry
laughter from the bushes, from the grass, from the trees ....

and gently tinkling from between the gleaming petals ....

Are the gods strewing rose petals on your path too with
fairies thrown in for good measure?

  4. The roses are so very beautiful.....I am hoping in the Spring that mine will produce a few decent blooms. Chipmunks have taken over the flowerbeds and I actually am not sure WHAT will be left..... ;)

  13. It is too early for animal judging here. We normally have it in Easter.

Your flowers are beautiful, so is your heart, the children must be so happy.

A friend's mum love German shepherds, and she lived her life judging them and making so may friends.

  24. These are great! But I don't understand. You said the heat destroyed your garden then how come you look like you have a nursery? My garden is gone, totally wiped out by 1-inch snow but today I say green buds coming out. Life! renewal! I miss you. How are you?

  25. I am very happy to have found your blog. Your photos are beautiful and I'm discovering that the Aussie gardeners have very much in common with those of us who live in the Desert Southwest. Our local Botanical Garden has many specimens of plants which are native to Australia and they thrive here as well.

  30. These are SO pretty Arija. I wish I had your luck growing them. I'm sure it's not luck after all, but knowing them like a best friend, and knowing just what they need.

  31. Aria, your roses are absolutely gorgeous. The light pink color gives them delicate and gentle look. I can imagine what wonderful scent they have.
I am so happy that you liked my crocuses post. I love these lovely flowers too. I took the photos on Saturday of this past weekend. It was our first day of spring. The scene was really fantastic, and I was exciting like a little girl when I saw blue carpet of crocuses all around the wood. Thank you very much for visiting and for your nice comment.

  33. I love roses Arija. Thank you for sharing this delightful post. I have included roses as contributing to the memorable scents of childhood post and although lamenting that there do not seem to be as many roses around now,on the Adelaide plains anyway, yours in the delughtful countryside seem to be doing just fine. It's my opinion that roses do just fine in our heat, so it is upsetting that many people are removing them to become more water-wise. I am thrilled when I see an old fashioned Lorraine Lee rose, so reminiscent of those around when I was growing up.

  34. My dearest Arija,

Please do not do anything else but take good care of yourself andachieve some sort of comfort. Reading your comment made me feel your pain and I feel so sad! That you, my feisty, wise and strong friend, are succumbing to great pain and discomfort. Yet you are out here sharing the beauty that was gifted to you. You are an incredible woman. I love you. I pray for you and I do think of you everyday.
