TODAY'S FLOWERS & I Heart Macro - Roses in all their glory

The sheer beauty of the rose cannot be denied

nor it's jewel like claws

but if either were missing,
it would not be a true reflection of life.

Picked at dawn to protect them from  the scorching heat
yet shrivelled my lunch time, even in the house

but no less beautiful
like kind people in old age
the care lines cancelled out by
the wrinkles of all those years of smiling.

  4. The thorns are just as beautiful as the rose in their own way - and SO agree with you about both being required to truly reflect life. Hope you're having a great day!

  5. Seems the rose protects itself as it entices us in with fragrance.

  6. Ah Arija, what a beautiful simile: but no less beautiful

  7. hi Arija. I also agree. stunning first shot. have you tried conditioning your cut roses? This is the best way. cut 1 inch off bottom of stem on a slant and immediately put it into a inch or 2 of BOILING. Use a jam jar for this but remember tp put a metal spoon in so that the glass does not break. Leave for about 10 minutes. You do this in case there is an air lock, if it has, you will see bubbles from the end of the stem. Then put directly into a vase of water or arrange according in oasis. Do NOT let the stem ever dry out. Hope this will help them last longer than a morning.

  10. Hopefully this last lot of rain has refreshed our poor old roses. They had quite a battle last week. The photos are lovely.
I have decided to discontinue my blog Arija but will still enjoy visiting.

  13. The rose is perfect even with its "claws". Thanks Arija for your welcoming words. Fortunately there are no bushfires, but the heat is unbearable. We stay in the pool a couple of hours every day, which makes life a lot easier..

  15. for me to try to put a name to my gum tree would be an exercise in futility! But I like them none the less!

A rose with no thorns is not really a rose.

  17. The red thorns are beautiful too. I like the poetry to go with the flowers that are withering with age.

  18. I wonder if the first pink rose is the same species with your icon rose? How lovely to have more wrinkles at our eyes and mouth because of laughs and smiles!Terrible cold wave is forecasted in a few days here, I’ll stay warm. Stay cool, arija. With best wishes for your 2014.

    1. Liebe Arija,
