SkyWatch - Blue Sky with Clouds

Clouds over the dunes in Goolwa

they seem to me like a couple of birds doing a courtship dance.

MY WORLD ~ A Little Adventure

Last week we had a 26 hour holiday. We drove down to Goolwa
on the coast where the Murray river flows into the sea.

The sign said the beach was open to drive to the mouth, so of
course we took the opportunity.

It is fun driving along the beach, watching the birds foraging
on the retreating tide.

The dunes on one side and the ocean on the other, no other cars,
we were in our element enjoying the day . . .

when the sand below our wheels got a bit soft and I noticed
that the tide had turned . . . oops

yep, we got securely bogged even before we turned back!
Now what do you do when you have made no provision for
driving on sand? You use emergency measures . . . working
against the incoming tide we took the mats out of our newly
cleaned car and used them under the wheels to get a grip.
Two rotations of mats under wheels, digging them out and
repeating the process, and we were heading back along the
beach holding to the allowed speed limit of 40km all the way
as the sea came tumbling in and the strip of beach narrowed
and got wetter.

The waves were starting to lap at the tyre tracks as we finally
made it back to the safety of the car park.
So much for trusting signs!

After all the excitement, we had deserved the best fish and
chips on the planet which we indulged ourselves with on the
riverbank with the golden glow from the setting sun.

MY WORLS ~ Eyre Peninsular Coast

Sometimes when I suffer from cabin fever being land locked on the
farm and a two hour drive from the sea, the Prof indulges me by
driving 500 miles and then some to the OCEAN!

The west coast of the Eyre Peninsular looking south towards
Antarctica, majestic in its beauty and so deceptive in its strength.

Roaring in to assault the shore with its might to carve it into
weird and wonderful shapes.

The Bathtub, a football field sized hollow carved out by roaring
high tides washing in through a gateway sized opening. The sea
has time and to spare to do her handiwork. unhurried and
unceasing she sculpts. Slowly, grain by grain she gnaws creating
ever growing sculptures incomparable in beauty.

How beautiful the blues of the water against the soft dunes and
hard rocky shore, but, like the wicked witch who wears a loving smile,
dare to enter her domain and she will chuckle at your foolhardiness
and drag you in her undertow to certain death.

Her might and majesty as she whips up an army of rolling waves
that even fill the air with spume.

For me, the rush of salt laden wind fills my thirsting soul's longing
and once more it takes flight across the seven seas and is at peace.

Click on any and or all photos and they will reward you with a
much more satisfying sight.

MY WORLD ~ 11 Coffin Bay National Park

All photos can be enlarged for full effect. Just click
on the photo and enjoy.

COFFIN BAY was discovered by Matthew Flinders
on Feb. 16th. 1802. He named the Bay after Sir Isaak

Coffin, the Resident Naval Commander at Sheerness

where his ship, the Investigator was fitted out.

The weather was, to say the least, interesting!

Pacific Gull Larus pacificus

Engage low ratio and drive along two wheel ruts in
the sand, come over a rise and voila! A beach to die for
romantically sequestered under a layer of spume from
the violently thundering brakers, edged by pristine
massive sand dunes. Sheer heaven for those who avoid
beaches with ten people per inch!

A little car park in the dell and hiking up this to me,
sheer cliff. Some twenty minutes later even I made
it huffing and puffing to the top. To discover that my
hammering heart was well worth it!

This was the view to the left. When we looked to the right,
disappointment was writ large on our faces, the beach was
OCCUPIED! Shock, horror!

There stood a fellow surf fishing. On closer inspection,
he wasn't a bad bloke at all and even showed us the
sea Salmon he had caught for his dinner. Pity he only
had one, we would gladly have bought one off him.
As you can see, the weather was thickening and we
hot footed it back to our vehicle.

Exploring further, we were greeted by this lovely
rainbow so we knew we were on the right track.
I photographed many wildflowers (see post below),
and when the weather had passed, we were treated to
these pristine dunes below.

As we left the park to return to our lodging we
we did so by the gentle light of the setting sun.

The world is large and varied, click on the Logo on
the right and let yourself be surprised at the beauty
you find there!

To Klaus and the MY WORLD team, as ever my thanks
for providing us with this vhicle to display that which
is dear to us.
