SkyWarch - the difference of an hour or two

Last Monday, DD* took me to Victor harbour
with both our dogs which did not quite work,
her pup is well behaved and my old hand-me-down dog
. . . best left unsaid.

We enjoyed 'fish-n-chips' on the beach
sitting at a distance from each other
(my dog is not compatible with any other dog *!?…)
and enjoyed being on the sea-side
even on this drab day

went on to Petrel's Cove (post to follow)
on the return trip
the sun had come out
and my how the view had changed!

* For DD read darling daughter.

SkyWatch & Nature Notes ~ The Inimitable Magnificence of Nature

Leaving Second Valley on the coast of South Australia rather
later than I had planned, I noticed the developing sunset.

The road was long and windy and the light augured well for
something spectacular to follow.

There is one gap in the hills before you can get a view of the sea
and only one place where you can safely stop, so it was pedal to
the metal as I held my breath and hoped to make it.

Around the last bend and into the lookout car park.
This first shot, as I wound down my window.

By the time I was out of the car, the light had changed
dramatically and the shadows were lengthening.

The sea turned into a cauldron of molten gold,

sea, sky and earth were suffused with golden light . . .

Looking up the coast, the sea was so blue while the coastal
grasses turned red.

At my feet all was golden, I could have mined my shoes.

Again, the sun bounced off the water

and turned it's molten magnificence into a different tone
of gold. When is too much not enough? When you stand there
bemused by all this glory . . .

They all enlarge should you wish to do so. All straight off the camera
except for re-sizing.

SkyWatch ~ Sunrise, Port Fairy

Crossing the river at sunrise, it looked like it was a fizzer with
such a thick cloud cover.
I persevered and hurried up the hill where I would have a view
to the East over the sea and I am glad I made the herculean effort.

Here is the morning sun breaking through the clouds in all it's
glory, lighting up the day as well as the sea.

A lone jogger, dark against the golden path to the horizon,

a different angle on the ever rising sun,

and the glory of golden glow on the smooth sand as the water
plays is advance and retreat game with the shore.

I do so love your comments that keep me connected to the world
although I cannot reciprocate at the moment while your foreign
correspondent is on location.

Be well, be happy and thank you for your kind comments

Nature Notes ~ A Walk on the Beach

This is Second Valley in South Australia, a tiny horseshoe bay
with a short but, at high tide, a deep mooring place. There is a
white sand beach with interesting rocks and rounded green hills
around. The fishing is good and the play of light on sea and shore
quite spectacular. On top of all, the water is crystal clear right
to the deep depth at the end of the jetty.

A perfect place to sketch with charcoal from an old camp fire
on the beach

or go exploring along the rocky outcrops as the tide is going out.

Wildflowers inhabit any crevice they find and

limpets and other much smaller tidal sea creatures cling to
the rocks. These tiny invertebrates are less than one tenth
of an inch and smaller (click to enlarge), I could barely recognise
them and I was wearing glasses.

Flat, rounded stones that your hands just itch to fondle and
take pocket-fulls home. I resisted, but just barely. These days
my collecting is done by camera.

The striations on the rocks and the vegetation are enchanting,

as are the bees and butterflies.

and the view is a pure dream.

World Bird & Watery Wednesday ~ Pelican Rising

Tumby Bay, South Australia, has a substantial pelican population
due to a great number of caravanning early retirees fishing from
the delightfully long jetty.

Proud pelican rising from the water in a perfect take-off.

Woops, maybe not quite so perfect . . .

Sinking fast, if you do not bother to enlarge, at least enlarge this
one. Not a good look at all, this amphibian is taking on water!

Another bounce and almost there . . .

One more, and bombs away!!!, but only just . . .

Yep, take-oof and landing are the most dangerous manoeuvres
when flying. Pelicans always look so cumbersome on take-off.
Landing is not such a problem, they just waterski and if it isn't
perfect, they just ruffle their feathers as a cover up.

A Subliminal Return

Have just returned from the sea and am repacking my bags
to be off to a workshop with India Flint at Yankalilla, also
close to the sea.

My watery photo, taken at our overnight stay in Whyalla
at the upper Spencer Gulf in South Australia, is just one of
the many I have in store for you all on my return on the 5th
of April.

Till then my friends, I must bid you all a fond farewell, stay
well, stay happy until we meet again across the iterpixies.

MY WORLD ~ Eyre Peninsula Coast

When our souls are in need of a rest cure, we often head to the
Eyre Peninsola in South Australia.
There are miles and miles of unending, pristine beaches and
the constant boom of crashing rollers roaring in to assault the
land. Not another human being in sight.
A perfect paradise for a loner like me to be rejuvenared by
the buffeting winds and the salt sea air.
*

*
The tonal range of blue the sea offers to my hungry eyes
sinks deep within my being
*

*
making me skip and dance on the soft white sand
*

*
to the rhytm of the ever pounding waves.
*

*
A glimpse of coastal vegetation
*

*
and a Pacific gull threatening to shower me with a rich, nourishing
blessing better suited to my garden.
*

*
The sea scapes are worth enlarging if you appreciate the colour 'blue'
or are addicted to water.
*
Thanks to the MY WORLD Team, we can all hold hands across the oceans.

MY WORLS ~ Eyre Peninsular Coast

Sometimes when I suffer from cabin fever being land locked on the
farm and a two hour drive from the sea, the Prof indulges me by
driving 500 miles and then some to the OCEAN!

The west coast of the Eyre Peninsular looking south towards
Antarctica, majestic in its beauty and so deceptive in its strength.

Roaring in to assault the shore with its might to carve it into
weird and wonderful shapes.

The Bathtub, a football field sized hollow carved out by roaring
high tides washing in through a gateway sized opening. The sea
has time and to spare to do her handiwork. unhurried and
unceasing she sculpts. Slowly, grain by grain she gnaws creating
ever growing sculptures incomparable in beauty.

How beautiful the blues of the water against the soft dunes and
hard rocky shore, but, like the wicked witch who wears a loving smile,
dare to enter her domain and she will chuckle at your foolhardiness
and drag you in her undertow to certain death.

Her might and majesty as she whips up an army of rolling waves
that even fill the air with spume.

For me, the rush of salt laden wind fills my thirsting soul's longing
and once more it takes flight across the seven seas and is at peace.

Click on any and or all photos and they will reward you with a
much more satisfying sight.

Watery Wednesday ~ White horses on the Wind

*

*
Sea horses galloping
white manes flying
noses into the wind.
*
Where do they run to
what do they seek
snorting in the storm.
*
They seek their freedom
they seek their home
far, far from churning foam.
