A cold and foggy morning
comforting to look out at from a warm and cosy bed
but not so nice for little birds with clammy feathers
their shoulders hunched up
seeking the first rays of the thin yet
warming winter sun
as I was giving my dog his morning brushing massage,
a flock of about 10-12 welcome swallows,
Hirunda neoxena,
flew in and spread themselves on my pergola
some eight feet from us
they were there again the next morning as I
left my room to groom the dog
they even let me walk to the front of the pergola
to photograph them in better light
just quietly meditating with the rising sun . . .
So comforting to have the birds come and companion sit.

A lovely, foggy morning even if it was cold -- I love your capture!! And the birds are so beautiful, all fluffed out to keep warm! Wonderful captures for the day, Arija!! I do hope your week is going well!!

Looks so peaceful.... pretty little bird
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and very nice to have the birds that close.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad these birds came to keep you company.
ReplyDeleteI love cold and foggy mornings, but we don't experience that in the lowlands here, except in our property in the province in December. I miss these type of morning.
ReplyDeleteThe birds lift my spirits each and every day. Gorgeous photos - thank you.
ReplyDeleteSuch a delightful morning greeting.
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet visitors!
ReplyDeletePretty little birds!
ReplyDeleteI love a foggy start to the day.
I love the foggy morn photograph; though I'm feeling how cold it was. Beautiful indeed to have the swallows sit nearby
ReplyDeleteat first I thought it was barn swallows, but I´m not sure. Love the shots where they sit enjoing the sun.
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful name for a bird. Love the foggy morning shot too.
ReplyDeleteReal fun to have swallows on the pergola in the morning. They look so cute. And when I see the picture of the foggy morning: Beautiful, but I am glad summer has just started here with the first nice and warm days. But nevertheless I like these mornings in autumn.
ReplyDeleteSweet shots of the swallows! They are cute birds! Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteI am interested in swallows in your Winter season. Over here they are busy rearing young now but they will be gone to Africa long before the cold weather returns.
ReplyDeleteRight about now, I wish I was your dog. I could use a morning massage.
ReplyDeleteAnd the swallows?!!!!!! I love watching them swooping down and around in the air so free! Your images are super. And love the misty morning image too.
Love seeing the foggy morning. The birds are so elegant.
ReplyDeleteGanz fantatsische bilder liebe Arija...

The little swallows are so cute. They look very much like the Barn Swallows we have here by the lake. I love when they are around because they keep the air clear of mosquitos and other bugs. Beautiful pictures of your little visitors ... (what kind of dog are you grooming/ massaging?)

Sounds wonderful Arija, three of my favourite things, sitting with my dog watching birds gather near in the foggy morning light.
ReplyDeleteI can feel the morning light and hear the chirps. Nice shots.
ReplyDeleteThe swallows are so sweet!
ReplyDeletePretty birds!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of these swallows!
ReplyDeleteSo you are going to have Winter now, and we are soon having our Summer here in Sweden! :)
Greetings Pia
Beautiful morning shots. I love the way birds looked when they puff out for warmth although I know it's hard on them to be cold.
ReplyDeleteArija - What a great, moody, misty photo! Your little swallow friends are plump!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect morning!
ReplyDeleteA pretty scene right outside your window Arija .... but yes! It looks chilly cold. I've always loved those little welcome-swallows but rarely see them down here.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful scene and the little birds look cute even if cold.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of the birds in the morning light.
ReplyDeleteHi Airja Lovely moody post and the Swallows are great. Margaret
ReplyDeleteThe detail of the swallows is amazing - they're usually swooping around so much it's hard to focus on them!! There are obviously many advantages to a misty morning ...
ReplyDeleteNice birds to have as company - they do look a little "plumped up"!
ReplyDeleteCheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
I just love Welcome Swallows! They are such sweet little birds!
ReplyDeleteLovely company... I am guessing that these are great fliers and insect catchers as the ones here are....hugs.. Michelle
ReplyDeleteSigh...oh my, I nearly missed this and have no idea how that happened! I may have said this dozens of times, but I absolutely adore Swallows, all of them and your images of your friends are just brilliant. I am so happy for you that they allowed a close up visit!!!
