Wild Bird Wednesday - Welcome Swallow

Unusual for autumn, this swallow is trilling away
overhead

just like the goldfinch in spring
the swallow followed me from one end of the house to the other
as I worked in the garden

continuing it's song and hardly missing a note

a perfect time for weeding
and so much nicer when being serenaded.

TODAY'S FLOWERS. I Heart Macro & Nature Notes - Naked Ladies in all their Pink Perfection

Sorry for my long absence, nothing wrong, just needed to
be kind to myself for a while . . .

meanwhile, the seasons have changed and these are not the
'Darling Buds of May' but my lovely naked ladies in March

the heralds of autumn, they come in many shades of pink

as well as white which I may show you next week

above, a mid pink and below a startlingly strong pink

my garden and corners of the farm are ablaze with them and
awash with their very pleasant scent.

OUR WORLD - Back to Yesteryear

Imagine my surprise as I headed into the village and spied these
vintage Holden cars. This is the all time iconic Aussie car.

The road outside the pub had a clutch of them on both sides,
obviously the owners were having a get together lunch there.

A quick U-turn, and I had snapped a few and

could zip onward to the next little town to get our necessities.

As you can see, it is autumn and the big pomegranate tree outside
the cafe was laden with fruit basking in the sun.

They are such incredible fruit, splitting with ripeness and showing
off their gleaming, ruby red, juicy insides.

What a wonderful world we live in, post yours and visit every one else's.

OUR WORLD - Angaston in the Barossa Valley

I dug into my archives again (not quite conversant with my
shiny new Canon while my trusty Nikon is languishing in
hospital), to share some photos I took for a MyWorld post.
So, in memory of Klaus, whose brainchild the meme was, I
post them now for the sequel.

Angaston is one of the old towns in the Barossa Valley wine
region. We go there on Saturday mornings to the farmers'
market but this time we just went for a walk and lunch.
Most of you will know that I have a great love of oaks so,
what better place to park, than under this magnificent
golden canopy?

Sometimes I like to explore what lies behind the facade of the
main street. We took a little path along the creek just off the
main drag to discover this storm-felled giant resting on the
grassy bank.

An old shed I have had a soft spot for for a long time

and chimneys reflected in the gold strewn creek.

The Angaston Hotel where we lunched,

sun shining through these forerunners of modern gladioli

and back to the golden drapery of one of my favourite oaks
to retrieve our car.

The end of a pleasant walk, that I hope you have enjoyed as
much as we did.

Share what you love or even dislike about your world to give
everyone a broader picture.

OUR WORLD - A Little Philosophy

When the world seems dark and dreary and your troubles
weigh you down,

look over your shoulder and see the sun that shines upon the
beauty in your life,

that, no matter what the difficulties, still brings you beauty
in abundance in every season of the year and of life,

wherever you go new wonders surround you . . .

Learn contentment from the goose, happiness is green grass
to nibble, as long as we have food and shelter, we are rich.

All photos enlarge and are from our fall trip in May.

Cone one, come all and show us what is happening in your world
on OUR WORLD.

My World ~ Colourful Autumn

Autumn is putting on her colourful coat, the pin-oaks are glowing
in gold and red and lighting up our park.

Spiders are madly spinning webs to provide food for their tiny
offspring when they hatch.

In the village, the old bank is being restored back into a family
residence. Leaves of the plane trees are blowing on the footpath.

Overhead, the still warm rays of the sun light up the colours
on the plane tree

and thrill me with their multi-coloured finery.

This was my world today, you can enlarge it if you wish.

MY WORLD is a great fun meme, I hope you all join in.

Nature Notes ~ Upside Down Seasons

Weather-wise the seasons are standing on their head. Although
we are in our second week of summer, there still are spring
blossoms on the orange trees.

Here it is either feast or famine, after sustaining eight years
of drought, we now have floods. Luckily our houses are not
in the valley so at least inside we are dry but the rain has been
pelting down (see previous post) and cutting channels at all
overflows from tanks and deep grooves in our driveways.

The one good thing about all this rain is that we will have
enough water stored for a couple of years at least. Old
established trees are at last getting a good drink and the water
table has also been somewhat replenished.

The smaller creatures are confused and think it is autumn.
The spiders are busily web-making and last night I was
entertained by the dance of the rats in the ceiling. They
seemed to think that the winter rains had come and it was
time to move house. Thinks . . . another job to do . . . put
Ratsak behind the ceiling vents . . .

The rose garden is denuded of blooms, all petals stripped of
by the massive downpour. At least the unseasonably plentiful
supply of water and nitrogen from the thunderstorms will make
them bloom better than ever.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ Autumn Shadows

Life, like the seasons, slowly fades into the shadows,

*
before the landscape and the hair turns to a snowy white,
*

*
there is still one great burst of colour, before the shadows
lengthen and finally cover all.

Thanks to Tracy at Hey Harriet for this delightfully shadowy meme.

Nature Notes ~ The Cycle of Life

Spring

and
Autumn

closest to each other in nature, yet furthest apart.

Both seasons of change, one glorying in the newness
of rebirth, the other baring its soul in preparation,

just transmutation never ending.....

BIRDPHOTOGRAPHY WEEKLY ~ 18 and WATERY WEDNESDAY ~ 10

Autumn at the Ovens River at Porepunka, Victoria

For best viewing, all photos can be enlarged.
A tiny Silvereye, Zosterops lateralis, thinking
about his morning ablutions in the cold river water.

and enjoying the unshine while it still lasts.

A common House Sparrow below posing on an autumn
tinted Birch twig

and a bridge over untroubled water, although rather
treacherously slippery and troublesome in itself, that
leads nowhere in particular, just making access through
the bush a little easier to the river further up stream.

The above photos were all taken on one of our autumn
interstate holidays.

birds and waters around the world.

Not so Plain Plane

All photos enlarge, just click on them.

I had to go to the village to see my super human
doctor, we are so priviledged to have not only a
Hospital, but also a Medical Clinic next door.
Nothing serious, just one of my regular check ups.
Being there anyway I popped down to the main street
to fish some money fron the bank and came out to see
this wonder right above my car.

Camera being welded to hand as always, it was a snap!

The blue sky, the autumn leaves and bobbles of seed,
Did we really have to drive over 2,000 miles and more
to see more wonders than these?
Hang on to your hats, come back for My World on Tuesday
for the spectacular!

Me, I smiled all the way home after feasting my eyes
on this Plane tree in the street.
