OUR WORLD & Wild Bird Wednesday

Another year gone down the gurgler. I cannot say I am sorry
to see it go, it has not been one of the better years I have known.

A young Galah demolishing the golden flowers on our
sizeable Grevillea robusta.

TV antennae make handy perches for Kookaburras, singly

or in pairs

and a big thank you to all those who visit and comment
on my humble blog. You all have made this faded year bearable for me.

The above photo of yours truly is a byproduct of my son instructing
me in the use of an added flash on my camera.
Every time my photographer son comes to visit, I glean a
little more of the art of photography.

May this New Year of 2013 be a year of Peace
so sorely needed in this strife torn world.

Weekend Reflections - Windows and Water

These are from our trip last autumn. People and sails from
the out-door restaurant brought inside the empty indoor space
by the obliging window in between

and peaceful reflections in a placid river . . .

Both enlarge with a click.

Hope all your weekends are going well . . .

MY WORLD ~ Sacred Canyon

Enter the Sacred Canyon at your own risk! Even the youngsters
among the trees stretch out their feet to trip you up.

Thoughtfully, in single file we brave the narrow creek bed.
Each lost in our own 'Dreaming'.

The Aboriginal marking of a permanent waterhole carved in
time immemorial, was it a hundred, a thousand or ten thousand
years ago that a flint tipped tool carved these sacred symbols
for ever present water?

Every crevice was filled with flowers, this one, the European
hop bush a recent newcomer in this ancient landscape.

Newer signs of things to come without this encouragement
one could easily give up as the creek is bone dry until you
actually reach the liquid wonder that flows for less than 100
metres before disappearing under ground.

If you enlarge this picture, you will notice more carvings on
the rocks at far left. They depict the fact that this is permanent
water, and the animals who come to drink here. The footprint
of an emu the squiggle of snake and drag of lizard as well as a
simple representation of a human.

Apart from a tiny trickle of water, total stillness engulfs all
comers as one by one each sinks into the Dreamtime . . .

A place so gentle yet powerful that uplifts and regenerates
the soul and one is loth to leave again.

The keeper of country who watched over me and helped me
negotiate tricky rock climbs to reach the inner sanctum.

The canyon is neither deep nor wide but powerful in a spiritual
way that stays with one through space and time.

Enjoy or enlarge and enjoy more.

STILL NIGHT DREAMING

The night is still
no frog dares raise its voice
no insect hums
no leaf by wind disturbed
no lowing calf or sheep bleat
rends the tranquil air

What portend brings
this night so deep
what dreams may wake
and quicken?

The day at rest
and I at peace
the senses stirring
hushed night's dreaming

My head upon a pillow soft
nestles with eyelids drooping
slips gently by a dream caressed
into an angel's keeping

I roam a landscape often trod
not from this life remembered
in castle tall or by some brook
I move free and unfettered
faces feelings lovers lost
beckon, with smile remembered.

Ringing in the New Year

Ring in the New Year, let echoes resound!

Let New Year Bells
ring loud and clear
for all those near
and far to hear
let Peace descend
from Heaven above
to banish strife
from this Earth we love.

With Hope in our hearts
let us greet the new dawn
and welcome the year
that is being born.

To all my friends and those yet to be
a Happy New Year for you and for me!
